If she was dead, Zach wouldn’t be forced into an unthinkableposition.

She might not be a spy, but she’d been raised by twosoldiers.

When Shannon turned away, she reached for the hammer Shannonhad used earlier in the day and moved into position, following Ray. She wassure Huisman would have loved to ensure they had access to nothing, but toolswere required to make bombs, and no one had come to pick them up the way theyusually did at the end of the day.

He was sloppy because he had too many balls in the air, andshe’d made him think she was harmless.

So it was time to do some harm.

She heard Shannon gasp but it was too late. She kicked out, catching Ray firmly in the back and sending him straight to the ground. Beforehe could get up, she brought that hammer down on his head. Hard. Twice. Bloodspewed and Devi took a step back as Ray twitched and then went still.

“What did you…” Shannon stared at the man on the floor.

Devi had to stay focused. They needed to get out of here. She just murdered someone. Murdered.

She had killed Zach’s dad.

No. She fought for her life. She was fighting for herfamily. Deep breath. She needed the key card, and she hoped the fucker had agun.

Shannon was shaking but seemed resolute. “He wears his gunin the small of his back. Always has. We need the key card, too, and we have tomove because even though they’re preoccupied with Zach, they’re going to seethe tape. You run. I’m going to destroy those bombs.”

“I’m going with you,” Devi said, reaching in and pulling outthe gun. It was a semiautomatic, like the one her mom had trained her on. Shechecked it and flicked off the safety before grabbing the key card. “We need tostick together because we only have one key card and one gun.”

Shannon nodded slowly. “Okay, but sweet girl, if anythinghappens, you have to let me go. If I’m not alive at the end of this, I can’tmake more bombs for him. I wish I could promise you I won’t, but we both knowI’ll do it if it means saving my boys.”

Devi nodded and grabbed the key card.

Shannon stepped over her ex’s body like he was a bit oftrash.

Devi followed and prayed she wouldn’t have to make thatchoice.

They opened the door and she heard a blast from somewhere inthe complex. The floor beneath her shook, and she knew Zach was here.

Zach wished like hell they’d zip tied his hands in frontrather than the back. It made it hard to punch a dude.

Huisman stood in the big loading bay looking every bit likea fucking Bond villain. All the asshole needed was a white cat and maybe aneyepatch and he would be set.

Devi was somewhere inside. Not somewhere. From the intelKenzie had dug up, she was likely being held in one of the labs close to thecenter of the compound.

“Hello, Captain Reed. It’s good of you to join us.”Huisman’s lips curled up in a satisfied smirk. “Welcome to Disrupt Earth. It’swhat I like to call this place.”

This place was stark and streamlined for work and notcomfort. Huisman was surrounded by several men cosplaying soldiers. At leastthat was Zach’s take. He could buy that a few of them had real militarytraining, but most of these men looked sloppy. A few even seemed uncomfortablewith their weapons.

The intel was correct. Huisman’s army was a ragtag group ofmercenaries, and not top paid ones. These were men he culled from the bottom orhired from local towns. Likely he’d wanted to make sure no one in his employhad ties to intelligence agencies. He thought he could tie up their loyaltywith money and the prestige of working in a place like this.

The dude highly underestimated Kenzie Taggart’s ability toflirt and roll a guy.

“I want to see Devi Taggart and my mother.” Time. He neededto buy the team a little time to get everyone in place.

They’d picked him up on the outskirts of Kathmandu, and hewas surprised they hadn’t roughed him up more than they had. He’d had his handszip tied and a coarse fabric bag tossed over his head. That was the moment heknew Huisman was going to play this to the hilt.

Because if Ben Parker was working for him, wouldn’t he knowthey had the location of his base here?

They were risking a lot for Kenzie’s crush. If Huisman wastelling the truth, this was one big-ass trap, and they were falling into it.

If he was lying, what Ben Parker did next would prove if hewas an ally or the enemy.
