He chuckled and realized that he would have to get used toguys hitting on his girl. It wasn’t like she said some hot guy hit on her. Hegently helped her up so she didn’t have to move too much. “I would rather takeit out in the shower. I’ve got a robe for you, sweetness. Have I told you howgorgeous you are? It doesn’t surprise me you got hit on.”

Her lips curled up as her head tilted, and her arms moved tohis shoulders. “You’re going to get in that tiny shower with me?”

He thought he was going to fit just fine. He dropped a kisson her lips. “Yes. But we need to make sure it’s kitten free. I swear they getmore adventurous every day. And shouldn’t Lacey have worked her magic to keepthe men away from you? I swear she’s a terrible bodyguard.”

“Oh, she had to pick something up, so I was alone.” Shefrowned. “Maybe I wasn’t supposed to tell you that.”

He unwound the rope around her wrists, inspecting them tomake sure he hadn’t left marks. “It’s a tiny town. I don’t suppose there’s toomuch trouble you could find, but I worry. I don’t like you being unprotected. Ithink we’re safe, but we can’t know who’s watching.”

“I was careful,” she replied and moved to where the linenrobe he’d brought for her hung on a peg. She stopped and frowned as she tiedthe robe around her body. “Zach, how the hell do you expect me to keep thisplug in on that ladder?”

He heard a snort. A feminine snort, if his ears weren’tlying.

Damn it. Lacey had come looking for him, and she was afreaking voyeur. Did everyone in his life have to be so damn comfortable withsex? He wasn’t going to point it out to Devi that they’d had an audience. Howhad she moved in so quietly? They needed motion detectors out here. AlthoughLacey pointed out there were a mega shit ton of animals who would set them off.

He pulled up his jeans and grabbed his T-shirt. Next time hewould be naked with her. They would lay together skin to skin for hours, andnothing would stop him. He grabbed his cell. “We’ll work it out. If I have tofind a way to carry you down, I’ll do it. I gave you that plug. You are not tolose it.”

He glanced down at his cell.

No bars. Nothing. Which meant the security system was down, too. They were blind.

It was possible the system was accidently down. It hadhappened a couple of times, but not since Zach had worked on upping the signal.

A jammer would do the trick. Jam the signal, and then takingout the security system would be a breeze. A good hacker could do it all from adistance so the whole team could invade and the cameras placed around the farmwould pick up nothing. He might have noticed but he had other things on hismind. Arthur was gone. Lacey… He didn’t know where Lacey was.

A chill went up Zach’s spine, and he looked at Devi, hisvoice going low. “I need you to hide.”

A brow arched over green eyes. She mouthed the word.Where?

She wasn’t wrong. They weren’t exactly in a place with a tonof hidey holes. He moved in close to her, his mouth by her ear. “Someone isjamming the signal around the house. I need to go and find Lacey, and I needyou to stay here. I think someone is downstairs. I don’t want to tip them off.I’m going to see if I can figure out who’s here. There’s a window to yourright. It goes to the roof. Shimmy down therainpipeand get to the Jeep if you can. If they catch you, know I’ll do everything inmy power to get you back.”

It was raining outside and she could slip and fall and breakher neck, and that was a way better case scenario than Huisman getting hishands on her.

He should never have brought her here.

Her face had gone a stark white, but she nodded andwhispered back. “I don’t think I can do that with the plug.”

He grunted and kissed her. He no longer cared about the damnplug, and it was sad. A few minutes ago her keeping that plug had beenimportant. “Be careful. I’m going to see if whoever is down there will followme. But for now, we need him to believe we don’t know he’s there.”

“Zach, I’m not going anywhere with you.” The brat was back, and it was clear she was clinging to their role-play. Her tone was sassy evenas her eyes told him she was worried. She was handling it with grace. Shewasn’t falling apart. “I told you my cousin will come for me, and she will rainhell on your whole syndicate.”

He moved to the ladder. Everything looked normal down below. He might be freaking out for nothing, but his instincts were kicking in nowthat the lust cleared a little. Someone was here.

Fuck, it might be more than one. Huisman might have sent ateam. He had before.

What had happened? What the fuck had gone wrong? He slippedhis SIG into the back of his jeans. If he was alone, he would try somethingdifferent, try to draw them out so he could take them down one by one, but hewas panicked at the thought of having Devi fall into their hands.

Huisman would torture her.

Was it best-case scenario if he was about to be arrested? Ifit was Interpol or some Agency black team come to drag him back? They wouldleave her alone. Her name alone would protect her.

His stomach turned as he started down the ladder. His backwas vulnerable. It went against his every instinct, but he did it for Devi. Heforced his voice to stay in that deep dark Dom place. “If your cousin shows herface here, I’ll take her down. I promise that, dorogaya.”

His feet found the ground, and adrenaline pumped throughhim. He had barely turned when he felt something cool at the back of his neck.

“I’d love to see you try, asshole,” a familiar voice said.

Yep, maybe not worst-case scenario, but it was bad.
