There were so many reasons he could give, including theconjugal visits excuse she’d come up with a few moments ago. Being his wifewould make it easier for him to control her. It would ensure his place in herfamily. Even her father would accept him if she married him. She couldn’t beforced to testify against him.
“Because I love you. Because you’re in my soul and I’m notcomplete when you’re away from me. Because if the only thing I do in this lifeis be good to you, I’ll be satisfied.”
Now she was the one crying. “Yes. I love you. I’ll marryyou. No matter what, Zach. If you need to run, I’ll go with you. That is myonly demand. I’ll marry you but you can’t leave me behind because you thinkit’s too dangerous. You can’t make that decision for me.”
“I will never leave you of my own volition, Devi Taggart. It’s you and me until the end, but your uncle seems to think that the end isgoing to be a long time off, so think about this, sweetness. You’re going to bestuck with me,” he vowed as he stared down at her. “Fuck that. You had yourchance. You made your choice. I agree with your demands, so the deal is made.”
Her heart was so soft when it came to this man. He wastalking deals like he could trick her into staying with him. He didn’t have to.She would never willingly leave him again. “I love you, Zachary Reed.”
“I love you so fucking much,” he growled before taking hermouth again.
Somehow the man managed to get her underwear off and freehis cock and then he was inside her. And the world felt right again.
She gasped at the first long thrust of his cock, but she wasalready slick and wet and ready for him. She kissed him and held on to him. Sotight. She could lose him tomorrow. She could lose him the next day. It didn’tmatter. They were together now, had made their vows, and she would let go ofher fear and live with him as long as she could.
When the pleasure hit it came with a wave of emotion sostrong she couldn’t block it up this time, couldn’t stop it. It came out as asob, an acknowledgment of what they’d been through. The orgasm mixed withrelief and anxiety and joy and fear.
She found herself on her back on the bed, Zach’s arms aroundher as she cried.
“It’s okay, sweetness,” Zach whispered as he kissed hercheeks and forehead. “I’ll make it right. I’ll do anything to make it right.Anything but give you up. I love you.”
She believed him. For the first time she believed him. Heloved her and it felt like a miracle.
She clung to him while she rode out the storm and vowed toprotect him, too.
ChapterFifteen
Zach pulled the baseball cap lower on his forehead and wasdeeply aware of where the cameras were. The main concourse of Liverpool LimeStreet Station was covered by a glass and steel dome meant to let the light in.Unfortunately, it was an overcast day and the rain pelted down, the sound a lowthrum against the multitudinous voices and the clang from the trains.
“Comms working?” Cooper moved in beside him. He worenondescript clothing. Jeans. Dark tee. Light jacket that covered the weapons hewas packing.
“Testing,” came the sound of Tasha’s voice over the smallearpieces they wore. “Zach?”
He gave his brother a thumbs-up before quietly replying.“We’re a go on the west end.”
Tasha and Lou were sitting at one of the small cafes, laptops open in front of them like they were a couple of travelers getting somework in while they waited on their train. Lou had already cut into the CCTVcams and was monitoring them, including several blocks around the station.
“We’re a go on the east,” Big Tag said. “You need to startmaking your way down. The train should be here in ten minutes, and it’s comingin on platform six.”
He’d studied the maps this morning over breakfast. With Deviin his lap, which should have been distracting, but he found she helped himfocus. If she wasn’t on his lap, he likely would have been watching her, tryingto see if she needed anything. Or if she was plotting her revenge for thespanking she’d gotten this morning.
Liverpool Lime Street Station was technically two stations.High and Low. They were in the mainline station called Liverpool Lime StreetHigh Station. Below was Low Station, that handled the underground and tookpassengers all across the city. High Station handled overland trains like theone from London his mother was currently on.
At least Henry’s wife said they were on it when she textedHenry this morning.
Zach was waiting for it to all fall apart.
“Heading that way,” Cooper reported back and then started tomove, gesturing for Zach to join him.
Big Tag and Henry were watching from the other side of thestation.
“I don’t like the fact that we split up,” Zach said underhis breath as they walked toward the platform. “We should have left more peoplewith Devi.”
Kenzie and Tristan were meeting with the Canadians to goover what they knew about the Nepal base and Huisman’s recent movements. Theywere meeting at a pub called The Phil. Public. Where it would be hard forsomeone like his father to ruin things.
Devi wanted to go with them because something about JohnLennon drinking there and they had weird old loos she wanted to see, but theydecided it was better for her to stay in the safe house.
He wanted to be with her, doing stupid tourist stuff andholding her hand and taking pictures so he could remember the days.
