Lexie’s eyes lock with mine for a hot second before she leans over the bar and asks the bartender for a beer. This girl rarely drinks. It fucks with her system. She smiles at the dude behind the bar when he hands her a bottle and passes out shots to all the girls.

I look at Linc, waiting for him to say something, but he’s too busy talking to Brea to notice. Son of a bitch. I’m going to regret this. “You sure that’s a good idea, little Sinclair?”

She lifts the shot glass, and her eyes lock on mine over the rim before she turns back to the girls. “Cheers, ladies.”

There’s a round of laughter as shots are thrown back, and they head to the dance floor, with Linc in tow. I look over at Jamie and Ryker, but the two of them are talking to women, not paying any attention to anything else.

Motherfucker.

It’s going to be a long night.

“You know, it’s not nice to look at another girl when you already have one between your legs, thirty-three.” I shouldn’t care that she’s calling me by my number, not my name. This woman doesn’t give a shit who I am. She cares that I’m a baller with a big dick she’s already felt through my pants. Normally, that would be enough.

Tonight, it’s not.

“Sorry, darlin’. Guess I’m a little preoccupied,” I admit as the song changes, and Lexie shakes her ass to Kid Rock.

“How about you let me help you with that...” When I don’t answer her, she tugs my hand, trying but failing to pull me to my feet.

I’m nearly six foot four, two hundred and twenty-five pounds of pure muscle.

She’s not moving me unless I let her, and I don’t let her.

“Nah...” I drop her hand and swivel away on the stool. Probably a dick move, but all things considered, I don’t really care. I never said I was a nice guy. “Not tonight.”

With her hand on her cocked hip, she smiles a sultry smile. “Your loss, thirty-three. I’ve got moves you’ve never seen.”

Pretty fucking sure at least ten guys on the team have seen those moves.

I’m not missing much.

And as I stand and turn back to the dance floor, I see fucking red.

Lexie’s still shaking her ass, and there’s a guy behind her with a death wish because his hands are on her hips. Linc better kill him before I have to.

I walk over to where Ryker and Jamie stand, the women from a few moments ago gone and a few teammates in their place, still watching the scene play out in front of me.

Jamie looks from me to the dance floor and fucking laughs. “Careful, Beneventi. Your give-a-fuck’s showing.”

Lexie spins in the asshole’s arms, a beautiful smile stretched across her face.

Son of a bitch.

I’ve got to get this girl out of my head.

LEXIE

She’s not looking for a knight in shining armor. Who needs a savior when you could have a man who would burn cities to the ground for you? Now tell me, which is sexier?

—Lexie’s Secret Thoughts

“You didn’t have to drive me home,” I growl at Lucky as he shuts the door behind me and rounds the front of the car.

The big, dumb, sexy jerk gets in the driver’s side and looks at me like I’ve got two heads. “You’ve been drinking, and you drove. How the hell else were you planning on getting home? Lincoln? He left hours ago with Brea.”

“I—” Lucky reaches across my chest and grabs the seat belt, then buckles the damn thing, all sorts of smug before he buckles his own. “I could have done that,” I mutter.

“Yeah. Just like you could have driven home. Since when do you drink, Lex?”
