It was my turn to level him with a look and I dropped my cheek to my shoulder. “Are you kidding right now? You’re thinking of sleeping in your car?” I shook my head. That could not happen. Not after everything he had done for me. “Look, you saved me earlier today and now it’s my turn. This is a huge apartment for just me. I’m sure there are extra blankets and pillows around. One of us could sleep on the couch while the other takes the bed.”
He lifted a brow. “You hardly know me. You shouldn’t invite a stranger—especially a man—to stay in your home with you.”
I rolled my eyes. “I’m pretty sure that if you wanted to hurt me, rob me, or worse, you would have done so by now.” I elbowed his arm. “Come on. It’s been a long day. We’re both exhausted. And I can tell you’re a gentleman.”
“Oh, I am, am I?”
“Yes. You are. Then tomorrow morning, you can take me to your office and show me where I’ll be filling in for your secretary for the next week.”
His grin widened. “Now who’s the hero?”
Damn straight. “A wise man once told me that everyone needs a hero now and then.”
