Damian held up a hand. "We don't look into personal matters that do not concern us. As long as what they do doesn't affect my family, I do not care."

Onyx looked ready to slit my brother's throat. I placed a single hand on his thigh and squeezed.

“I suggest you start fucking looking,” Onyx spat. “Associate with scum, and I’ll have to handle that.”

My brother sighed and the tired look came over his face. The one he got anytime we had a sibling meeting. There were always insane demands from at least one or all of us.

“Ma said you’re going to have more gray hair before you hit forty if you keep stressing like this,” I pointed out. “You trying those breathing exercises Emir suggested?”

Damian’s left eye twitched in that way that made me think he’d had too much coffee in the last few hours. "How are you going to do this?" he asked, ignoring such wise words from our own mother.

I shrugged. "Break into his home and break his face."

"Why is he so simple?" Nash grumbled under his breath.

"Hey, it's worked in the past."

Damian shook his head. "You won't be able to get to him. He's guarded at all times."

"I can handle it on my own," Onyx said.

My stomach twisted. "I'm not saying you can't, bella, but?—"

"I am." Damian leaned forward, clasping his hands together. "If you could have, you would have. But since I know he's walking around I’m going to assume you have some issues pulling the trigger.”

Onyx’s fist balled up on the table, his pouty lips turned down in a frown. I did what any logical thinking husband would do. I picked him up and sat him proudly on my lap.

“Stop flirting with my husband,” I warned Damian.

“You can not be serious.” My brother stared at me for a long while, his frown deepening with every passing second. “I wouldn’t flirt with him even if I was paid.”

“Fuck you. It’d be a fucking prize to even have me spit in your direction,” Onyx bit out.

“I feel like we’re getting off topic here.” Nash passed over a sheet of paper. “Lucero, no one is flirting with Onyx.” He held up a hand. “Nothing to do with how attractive or unattractive you are. Shit, can we just talk business?” He tapped on the sheet of paper. “Took us a while, and we might owe some people some favors, but we figured out who contracted the hit on Lucero.”

Onyx snatched it up as I looked over his shoulder at it. I had no idea what I was even looking for, and to be honest, I didn’t care who set me up. Maybe I should send them an edible arrangement. Because of them, I got to have Onyx.

"What the hell?" Onyx slammed the piece of paper down. “That makes no sense, why the fuck would he hire me?”

I reached for the paper but Onyx wasn't letting it go.

"You have to realize how fucking insane this is, right? Even for that bastard."

I thought about the list of people we suspected. “Was it the guy I beat the shit out of in front of his kids?”

Onyx twisted around in my lap and he gave me that look. The one that said ‘shut the fuck up right now or you’re not getting any ass.’ I audibly shut my mouth and smiled like the good boy I knew I could be.

Nash cleared his throat, hiding away his laughter. One look at Damian, and he was looking anywhere but at me. His hand was covering his mouth.

Fuckers.

"Régis Monet set you up,” Nash said.

Well, he was for sure not getting an edible arrangement. I had never met the man prior to a few months ago, so why the fuck would he put a hit out on me?

“It's the only logical theory we have at the moment. But I'm guessing he thought you killing Lucero would have turned theentire family on you." Nash pointed at me. “His plan failed, not knowing how obsessed Lucero was with you.”

They all looked at me, and I couldn’t help but smile. “True love, not just obsession.”
