I wouldn’t have it any other way.
EPILOGUE
ONYX
One month later
Agitation simmeredon the surface as I forced a breath out between clenched teeth. What the fuck was I doing wrong?
I whisked the egg white harder, trying to get them to so-called stiff peaks. Who the fuck did this shit by hand? I ground my teeth as my wrist screamed in agony. My forearm was starting to lock up. And yet there wasn't any change. The egg whites were foamy but that was about it.
"Lucero."
"Yes, bella?" His voice was a lot closer than I'd expected.
I barely contained my jump of surprise. My husband was such a creeper. He was huge as hell and still had the capability of sneaking up on me. I turned, the bowl in hand, whisk still going.
"Are you sure this is what I'm supposed to be doing? Nothing has changed."
Lucero smiled down at me with that stupid look in his eyes. The one that said he loved me so much he just wanted to screamit. How anyone could love me that much was beyond me but I was well past the point of doubting it.
"Hmm, well, you're doing it?—"
"Wrong. I fucking suck at this." I was ready to put the shit in the trash and run to the bakery a block away from our place instead. I had no clue why I thought I could try making angel food cake. The damn thing should be labeled as the devil's food cake. Shit was impossible.
Lucero gently placed his huge hands over mine before I could throw anything. "Not wrong, but the way you're going about it, it will take a few hours."
"Your family will be here before then."
He nodded. "Want help?"
"I'm supposed to be making this alone," I grumbled. Shit wasn't easy. Give me an underhanded human trafficker surrounded by security. I'd have him dead within the hour. Me in the kitchen, either the whole place was going up in flames or I'd make a huge fucking mess.
"How many times have you tried?" Lucero asked, looking around at the mess in the kitchen.
There were countless bowls scattered around the kitchen. Over five cartons of eggs, and not to mention, the broken KitchenAid Cara had gifted us.
"I had to figure out how to separate the yolk from the slimy whites. That shit is hard. It kept breaking and then I had to start all over. Watching videos barely helped."
Lucero nodded like he understood my frustrations, but how could he? My big idiot husband was a damn God in the kitchen.
"I'm so proud of you, Onyx."
My head snapped up. I hadn't noticed that I'd been staring at the ground. Our eyes met, and I was met with an intensity that left little doubt in my head with his sincerity.
"But I failed."
Lucero sat the bowl to the side and scooped me up in a matter of seconds. It was like second nature now for me to wrap my arms around his neck and for my legs to hook around him. He brought us face-to-face before kissing me.
"Yeah, but you didn't know how to do any of this before today, right?"
I pulled back a little. "But?—"
Lucero lips met mine, stealing my words and my breath away. A spark of electricity trickled over my lips and traveled down my throat, and throbbed in the middle of my chest. I opened my mouth, falling prey to my husband's tongue. The way he eagerly ran it over the seam of my mouth screamed he wanted in. I could practically imagine him begging.
Desire twisted something inside of me, and I withdrew before giving in to him. I didn't want to imagine anything. I wanted it all, and Lucero was going to give it to me.
A whimper leaked from between his parted lips that had my cock perking up and forming a tent in my lilac skirt. Neither one of us said anything but it didn't go without notice.
