Aweek has past and things are going back to normal. Gabriele joined our organization and seemed to blend in perfectly. Harper trusts him so that’s all I need to know. He helped to get her out so I owe him.

I look at her lying next to me, her short blond hair ruffled after what we did last night. I loved her long hair but this suits her more, especially after the way she handled herself last week. She finally started eating again and her nightmares seem to have become less and less frequent. The dark circles under her eyes are now from the wicked things I do to her that keep her up all night.

I lean over to the bedside table and pull open the drawer, I grab the little box that sits in it and take it out. I didn’t mean to blurt out the fiancée bomb last week, but she needed to know I wasn’t planning to go anywhere else but next to her.

I get out off the bed and walk over to her side of the bed and kneel down beside her. My fingers dust lightly over her cheeks and lips.

“Hmmmm… Let me sleep, you wicked woman.” She mumbles.

“Tesoro, wake up.” I place the box in my hand, open it and hold in front of her.

Her eyes flutter open, hazy with sleep. She blinks a few times, her gaze slowly focusing on the velvet box in my hand. A frown flickers across her face as she takes in the sight before her.

“Wait…” she mutters, propping herself up on one elbow. Her hair is a tousled mess, and she’s still half asleep, but the confusion in her voice quickly turns into realization.

“What… What are you doing? I already agreed to marry you!”

I smile, my heart pounding against my ribs.

“Tesoro, I’ve never been good with words and I didn’t do it properly, but there’s something I need to ask you.”

Her breath catches, her eyes darting between the ring and my face.

“Are you serious?”

“Dead serious,” I say softly, my gaze locked on hers.

“You’re the first thing I think about when I wake up and the last thing on my mind when I sleep. You’ve got the heart of a warrior and the soul of a queen. You’re not just my princess, you’re a badass, the kind who can take on the world with a smile and a sharp tongue. You make me laugh on the worst days and believe in things I never thought possible. And I don’t want another day of my life to pass without you ruling it by my side.”

I take a breath, my voice steady but my hands trembling.

“Willyou marry me, Tesoro?”

For a moment, the room is silent except for the faint sound of her breathing. Her lips part, and I see tears welling in her eyes. She sits up fully now, clutching the blanket to her chest.

“You’re insane,” she whispers, her voice trembling with emotion. “Completely insane.”

“Insanely in love with you,” I counter, holding her gaze.

A tear slips down her cheek, and she lets out a shaky laugh.

“Yes. Of course, yes.” She throws her arms around me, the momentum nearly knocking me off balance.

I slide the ring onto her finger, my chest tight with joy. She looks at it, then back at me, her eyes sparkling with happiness. “I can’t believe you did this while I looked like this.”

I chuckle, kissing her forehead. “You look perfect. Always.”

I take her ringed hand and place it on my heart.

“With every beat, it’s been yours, even before I even knew your name up on that rooftop.”

Harper grabs my neck and pulls me into her and on to the bed. Her hands roam over my body within seconds.

I laugh as our lips part. “Someone’s eager for something.”

“Shut up and take me, make me yours, play with me!” she mumbles.
