“Lot’s wife.”

“Mama is my friend. She’s all I have. She’ll love me again when the baby goes.”

CJ clenched his jaw, wanting to call his father so bad, he almost ignored the memory of how out of touch Dad was and would be no help. Uncle Mort had his own issues.

Nope, he wouldn’t run down why he didn’t have support. It would only depress him and, at the moment, Rebel, his brothers, and Molly needed him. Mom and Dad did, too.

“Won’t she, CJ?”

“Of course,” he said, afraid to tell her he didn’t think so. The woman was a pathetic wretch, while Molly was barely grounded in reality.

“My cousin, Rory, and I will pick you up about ten tomorrow morning,” he said once her tears stopped.

“We can’t go alone?”

They could, but CJ needed moral support for himself so he could help Molly. “It’ll be safer. If you aren’t feeling good after the procedure, Rory will assist you while I drive you to the hotel.”

She leaned back to look at him. Her brow pleated. “We’ll all be able to fit on a motorcycle?”

He grinned. “No, Mo. We’ll be in my dad’s pickup.”

Her eyes widened. “You can drive a real car? Not just a motorped?”

“It’s a moped. I ride it. You don’t drive motorcycles and mopeds.”

“Uh-huh,” she insisted. “You steer it, so you must drive it.”

He smiled at her, surprised at the tenderness he felt for her. “I’m not going to argue with you.”

“I have to go,” he told her, gently pushing her away from him and getting to his feet.

Her eyes clouded again.

“Do you want to come to my house with me? You’ll be safe there.”

She shook her head. “I have to make Mama be my friend again.”

Silence was the better part of valor. “I’ll order more food and have it sent over.”

“Okay.”

“Are you sure you’ll be okay? I can always call the police on your behalf—”

“No! No, please. Don’t do that. Please, CJ. Daddy knows them. He knows law justice.”

Biker justice was needed for that fuckhead.

“Then come with me.”

“You can stay with me,” she whispered.

“I can’t, Molly. I hate your fucking dad and he wants to hurt me.”

“He’d never. That would make him a bad man.”

He was that and more.

“I love Mama and Daddy. The giant told me so when he came down the beanstalk.”
