Eyes wide, Boss exchanged a look of surprise with K-P.

For the first time, a look of unease slid into Sharper’s face. “Well, Sebastian, er, I—”

“Kimber adored Vivian,” Daddy said without humor. “Knowing how you feel about her as well as what a giant motherfucker you are to those boys, I felt compelled to protect them.”

“I don’t need your fucking money for my grandson,” Logan sneered. “I love Johnnie.”

“They areallsafe,” Sharper inserted quickly. “And L-Logan has declined all payments for Johnnie. He kindly allows me to…to…er…put it in a trust fund for Christopher.”

“That’ll be the fucking day,” Daddy said with a snort, back still to everyone while he held the poker in the flame. “Fred, Fred, Fred. What am I going to do with you?”

“Wh-what do you mean?”

“You’ve played me, motherfucker.”

“What can you do?” Logan demanded. “We are all unarmed.”

“Ummmm hmmmm,” Daddy said.

Fred gulped. “I haven’t played you, Cee Cee.”

“Then you think I’m a fucking fool—”

“I-I don’t—”

“Oh, but you do.”

Bash wasn’t quite sure what that had to do with all K-P had revealed. It seemed as if Logan and Sharper had played Daddy, but he was conveniently overlooking that. For the first time, Bash questioned Daddy’s reasoning. Under any other circumstances, he would’ve struck by now.

Unless he was afraid…?

The idea horrified Bash. To even think Daddy a coward shamed him.

“Cee Cee, I’ve taken care of your son and your wife. She wants for nothing.”

“She shouldn’t. I send you and her enough money to live like royalty, and to raise my son sohe’llwant for nothing.” Daddy glanced over his shoulder, in time to see Fred wince and Logan smirk. “She doesn’t see her money, does she?”

Fred looked sick. “She gives it to Logan.”

“Uh huh.” Rocking on his heels, Daddy sniffed, then returned to stirring the fire. He got another piece of wood and threw into the flames. “Why didn’t you tell me the truth?”

“A-about what, Cee Cee?”

“Oh, I don’t know, Fred. Life. Sons. Motherfuckers. I talked to you a couple weeks ago and you told me about the Christmas debacle, swearing Logan had never done anything of the kind to Christopher.”

“It’s true,” Fred said faintly.

Silence, and then wild maniacal laughter escaped Cee Cee. Seeing Fred and the others flinch comforted Bash. He wasn’t the only one who almost shit himself at the sound.

“Do you think I don’t know what Donovan and his cunt of a daughter is capable of? That bitch is wickeder than her old man. If she didn’t love my boy, I might’ve fucking buried her and taken him with me.”

“Shut the fuck—”

“Logan,” Sharper interrupted, shaking his head.

Bash searched his memory, trying to figure out exactly when the situation turned in Daddy’s favor.

“I left Hortensia to give you and Logan my club’s territory, Sharper.”
