Sharper’s hand trembled and he balled it into a fist. “I know, Cee Cee. The Death Dwellers wouldn’t be what they are without you.”
The words sank into Bash, and he realized Sharper was, in fact, a Death Dweller, not just a powerful and crooked mega preacher.
“I send more money to you motherfuckers than I do to anybody, friend or foe.”
“Yes,” Sharper agreed.
“When Rack deserted the fucking Scorpions, I didn’t kill that motherfucker. He admired Donovan, so I said good riddance.”
Pressing his lips together, Rack looked between Daddy and Sharper, his eye twitching.
“Bash?”
At the sound of his name, Bash jumped to his feet. “Daddy?”
“Small towns with a sagging economy and barely any infrastructure is a vital commodity.”
Not understanding, Bash wrinkled his brow. “Yes, Daddy.”
Turning slightly, Daddy smiled at Bash. “You’re a good boy. I’m proud of you.”
“Thank you, Daddy,” Bash said, beaming. “I’m proud to be your son.”
“Joseph?”
Boss scrubbed a hand over his face. “Yes, Sebastian?”
“Do you want out?”
“If I can’t see K-P, I’ll take Joey and Christopher—”
“Christopher?” Daddy asked. “Why him? And why would Pattie allow you to take our kid? Why would Fred?”
“They are busy with their daughters,” Boss responded.
“What about Johnnie? I thought they were friends.”
“That’s between you and Logan,” Boss said. “Johnnie is his.”
“What about numb nuts?”
“Simon won’t go against anything Logan says,” Boss responded, apparently familiar with ‘numb nuts’.
“Christopher won’t leave Patricia, Joe,” K-P said bleakly.
Boss gripped the back of the chair since he hadn’t sat back down.
“In other words, if Joe leaves with you, he walks away from Christopher, Kaleb,” Daddy said.
K-P nodded.
“Or you can suck it up and stay at his side,” Daddy suggested. “Be his eyes and ears. His right hand man.”
“No,” Boss barked, shaking his head. “I can’t ask him to sacrifice his dreams…No.”
“Not being able to contact Vivian to find out about his godsons will be hard,” Daddy conceded, “but losing touch with you will break him, Joe. And we both know you won’t leave Christopher right now.”
“Then help us to find a way to make it work,” Boss said quietly.
