Megan’s frown deepened. “Do you want me to call Kendall?”

“She won’t come,” he croaked.

She sucked her bottom lip between her teeth, and Johnnie groaned.

He’d come up with all kinds of reasons for why he refused to tell Christopher about Bash, but he couldn’t lie to himself. It had to do as much with Kendall as it did Megan. He wanted them to look at him the way they viewed Christopher.

Christopher had saved Kendall and he’d saved Megan, and he hadn’t needed to consult another motherfucker. He’d acted on instinct. In Megan’s eyes, he was a superhero. At one time, Kendall saw him as a villain.

She’d still wanted to fuck him.

Both women still respected him and admired his prowess.

“You’re hurting my wrist, idiot,” Megan said, trying to tug away from him.

Not ready to let her go, he lessened his grip.

“I want to see my daughter. I came in to say ‘hi’ to a couple of my friends who just arrived. Their boyfriends hadn’t gotten Christopher’s order for all out-of-town members to return to their respective clubs.”

Why hadn’t he known that? Because Christopher had fucking shot him. “We’re on lockdown?”

“No.”

One word. No explanation.

“I also brought a pasta dish I made for this evening’s meal. I-I…never mind. I just need to leave.”

“I’m sorry about Jo.”

Startled, she snapped her gaze snapped to his. “Christopher told you? We wanted to wait until tomorrow night, so we wouldn’t ruin anyone’s day.”

Johnnie’s heart rate sped up. This was a do or die moment. Christopher had been so vulnerable, opening up to him out of frustration and despair. But Bash was relentless.

Relentless.

“Once Jo’s surgeries are behind her, you should think about going away to clear your head, sweetheart.”

He wouldn’t leave her on her own. He’d ask Cash to help and split the guarding duties. But he’d mired Kendall and Megan deeper into danger. He’d get them out.

Jo unwell was a good thing. Hopefully, she didn’t die, though he’d sacrifice her over Megan.

“You’re holding me hostage and showing me your penis to tell me to go away?”

The statement amused him. “You still call dicks and cocks penises? I don’t have one of those, by the way.”

“You don’t have a vagina.”

Ignoring the pain his laughter brought on, he guffawed. “No, sweetheart,” he said as his chuckles died away. “I definitely don’t.”

Her tension eased and she offered him a small smile. “Only Christopher has a dick and a cock to me.Youdon’t,” she added, ignoring his shock that she’d actually said those words.

The way she’dsoundedsaying those words. His erection wouldn’t ease anytime soon. Maybe, once he revealed what he’d recorded he might get to hold her. He imagined her distress. A distraught person didn’t realize their actions. They only wanted comfort.

“Your food is getting cold.”

“I have something for you to hear,” he said, not interested in food. He’d recorded most of his conversation with Christopher. He hadn’t known what would be said or even if he’d be able to use it. If he’d want to use it. But Bash was furious. Johnnie needed more time. He needed to be the hero for once.

Swallowing, he opened the app where his recordings were stored.
