“Aw. Brett.” She stared at me with her soft, twinkling eyes. “Trust me. There’s no way I could possibly forget about you, whether I wanted to or not.”

We shared a laugh.

“So what are you up to after this?” she asked.

“I’m gonna go buy some soundproofing panels.” I crossed my fingers. “If I can find them, that is. Hopefully, you’ll see me pull up here later with a car full of ’em.”

“You’re going to buy them right now?!” she asked, her voice rising an excited octave. “I figured you’d send those workers out to get them.”

“I would if I trusted they’d actually do it in time. But I don’t.” I stared into her eyes. “And I wanna do this for you, Mac.”

Her smile spread. “You know, after the way we met, I never expected you to be such a sweet boy.”

“Yeah?” I reached over and cradled her cheek, my knuckles brushing against her soft skin. “Kiss me, then.”

McKayla didn’t resist when I gently pulled her closer. I wasn’t used to feeling much when I kissed a girl—usually, all I felt was desire pulsing between my legs, and that was all there was. But when I kissed McKayla? Something felt different. Her warm taste filled my senses, and something in me, something deep down, saidyes!Sparks flew as her warm, electric taste filled my senses, making the tiny hairs on my neck stand tall.

Of course, I’d be lying if I said there wasn’t a strong desire pulsing between my legs, either …

I deepened our kiss, the two of us melting into each other, as the engine of the Mercedes purred in the background. My hand found its way to her thigh and slowly inched higher up her tight jeans. I wasn’t planning on getting fresh, but I was just so crazy into her, I couldn’t help it. Ineededher.

She writhed in her seat, and her moans encouraged me to keep going. My fingertips glided higher up her tight jeans, higher, until her legs ever so slightly cracked open, granting me access.

My hand traveled higher still, until I felt the sweltering heat emanating from between her legs. Ihadto feel her dampness, to hear her soft sounds of pleasure, to feel her collapse in my arms when I touched her—but just before I reached her, she broke off our kiss and squeezed her legs shut.

“Wow. Okay.Wow,” she said, flustered. She sat up straight, on the furthest edge of her seat, and stared at me as if I weren’t to be trusted. “Kissing you is dangerous.” She cleared her throat. “I really gotta go, Brett.” She pushed her door open and dangled a single leg out. But before she jumped out, she peeked back at me.

“Wanna take a ride?”

“Oh my God,” she whispered under her breath, but her smile told me she was tempted—before a clearer mind prevailed. “No. I can’t. Raven’s waiting for me to take her lunch break. Ihaveto get back to work. You’re trouble, you know that?”

“Trouble can be good sometimes,” I said with a grin.

“Bye~e!” she sang, her cheeks reddening.

“Bye, McKayla.”

I watched her run up the sidewalk, her cute ass jiggling as she hurried into her store.

Damn, Mac. You’re so beautiful,I thought, biting my lip.I want you so bad.

McKayla

Ifelt weightless, my knees weak and my heart thrumming, as I walked back to the shop. I didn’tdareturn around and look at Brett, because I knew I’d be tempted to run back to his car if I did. It’d taken every ounce of willpower I had to actually get out of his car and not, y’know, tell him to drive off and take us somewhere private instead.

The door bells jangled, and a cloud carried me across the floor—where was I going? I didn’t know and I didn’t care, because the only thing on my mind was that Brett wasamazing. He was exactly the kind of guy I’d beenwaitingfor all these years. His smile alone could ignite a fire between my legs. Of course, it tookmorethan a pretty face for me to get excited over a guy.

And that was the best part with Brett. At lunch, it was clear Brett was more than just a hot, cocky hockey player. He was sweet. Really sweet. And he cared. Of course, I had to get past that prickly exterior of his before I realized it—but who could blame him for having a shell? These days, who didn’t? Everyone’s got a shell because we’veallbeen hurt. You’ve just got to hope you meet the right person before your shell gets too thick.

Those were the kinds of thoughts swirling my head as I paced the salesfloor, still grinning like a fool, oblivious to anyone or anything else—until a voice startled me.

“Sooo? How was lunch?” Raven asked in a playful drawl.

Suddenly remembering I wasn’t alone, I grounded myself and wiped the smile off my face.

“Fine,” I murmured, sounding like a teenager who’d been caught sneaking out at night.
