“Dammit. He dumped me.” I stomped my foot on the carpet, beyond pissed.

Lil’David hadn’t ever shown gumption, but now he wanted to be all big and bad.

I crossed my arms and sighed.

“I was loyal to that man.”

War dangled my panties in my face and raised his eyebrow.

“Were you now?”

I snatched the panties from War and dropped them on the table by my phone.

“I was loyal except for tonight. How the hell did he break up withme?”

I wasn’t just angry at Lil’David. I was pissed off that War took away my constant loving.

Before I could curse him out, War held the back of my head with his hands and stared into my eyes. I thought he was going to kiss me, but instead, he released me and dropped to his knees. He placed his hands on my hips, looking up at me with his most intense eyes to date. I sucked in my breath as he slowly lifted my dress. Within seconds, cool air met my exposed lower body.

“I know how to make you feel better.” War breathed directly on my pubic hair.

I rested my hands on War’s shoulders and tried to hold back a smile. When he dipped his head to swipe my slit, my legs almost buckled.

“I’m going to make you forget that man. I have to do it now, since I made y’all break up.”

Before I could question him, he picked me up as if I weighed no more than a bag of potato chips. I laughed, wanting to protest but couldn’t stop laughing, as War jiggled me up and down and palmed my bare butt.

“Your room or mine?”

“Yours.”

War ran to the back of the cottage with me over his shoulder until we reached his room. When he tossed me on the bed, I couldn’t stop laughing. He chuckled, too, as he removed his underwear.

Everything about War was unexpected, delightful, and charming. I wanted to absorb his energy like a sponge.

“Is this how we’re going to be?” I raised my dress over my head.

War crawled toward me like a panther and kissed my stomach, breasts, and thighs.

“Absolutely.”

In War’s arms, I felt safe. Maybe it was time for me to welcome the possibility of what could be.

The following morning, after a night of intense lovemaking, I left War in bed. Since I was the first one up, I dressed and fiddled around in the kitchen to start a big breakfast of country ham, cheese grits, scrambled eggs, and homemade buttermilk biscuits. Although I had never been the most domestic person, War milked my coochie so good I was ready to turn in my resignation to EFU, put on an apron, and walk about War’s kitchen half-naked with a couple of his babies sucking my titties.

Damn, that man didn’t play fair when it came to sex. My legs were still shaky from having them pushed over my head like an acrobat. As I reached for the sifter to make the biscuits, I winced, feeling the scratches and nips on my shoulders and back, rubbing against the smooth silk of my black floral caftan. Was he a freaking vampire?

Believe me, though. I got mine in. As he scratched, nipped, and sucked me into a tizzy, I dug into his skin, holding on for dear life too. The more he clawed me, the more I clawed him back.

“Morning, sunshine.” War’s deep voice met me from behind, sending an unexpected yet pleasant tingle down my spine. “Check your phone.”

I picked up my device from the granite counter and unlocked it.

Ping.

When I opened my message, a picture of War filled my screen from the shower. Water dripped over his head, face, and chest. Unfortunately, only the upper V of his waist was in the shot.

I licked my lips and took a big breath, ogling the picture and smiling as I recalled how luscious this man was in real life. I was blessed to have every bit of that lusciousness standing behind me, ready for me to take it again. Before I turned around, I set my phone down and fixed my face so I wouldn’t grin like I hadn’t ever been in the presence of a fine man before. I half turned and spoke like I had good sense.
