She taps my phone screen. "If you’re absolutely certain, text Leo to come and get you. You'll need to stay until the last two minutes of the second half, then make your escape."
I mull over her plan, it's simple, and just might work. "I think that's a good idea, he's got me so rattled I can't think straight."
She gives me a look. "He's not going to make it easy, he'll tear down that house looking for you."
I huff. "I know he will, he’s psychotic. He won’t find me though, I tutored a girl last year that was a side chick for one of the guys at that frat. A lot of times we meet there for sessions, and we would have to move into a secret room when his girlfriend popped in for a secret visit. I know where the key is, so as long as it's not occupied tonight that's our one shot."
"But Kai's best friend is a member of the same fraternity, won't he know about the room?"
"She said only officers know about it, it's where they hold their secret meetings."
I type, erase, then retype about a million messages to Leo before settling on one.
Me:Hey handsome, still on for tonight?
It's not long before the messaging bubbles pop up that he's responding.
Leo:Yes. When do you want to meet up?
Me:Can you pick me up from the game?
Leo:Of course. Look to your left.
I smile as our gazes clash. He doesn't give me butterflies like certain "brothers" do, but the sight of him does make my breath hitch. That’s a start.
He's in a simple white t-shirt, and black jeans that have seen better days. The few tattoos that he has are peeking out from his shirt sleeve, making him look dangerous in that delicious kind of way.
He's a tall drink of water, and I've never really had a thing for blondes, but I like how stadium lights make his hair appear more golden than it actually is.
I wave at him like a dork, because apparently I've developed social awkwardness within the last two minutes. Unfortunately, he takes it as an invitation and walks over to where we are.
I look toward the field nervously. No one that knows Kai would put it past him to march up here and throw me over his shoulder like a damn caveman.
He can't see me conspiring with his enemy, or they'll be a whole shit show that security’s not prepared to handle.
"Why are you watching him so intently?" Leo's usual cheerful voice has turned irritated.
If not for the tightening of his jaw his expression would look casual. "You know why. I'm so sorry he’s the way that he is, but nothing good will come from him seeing us together right now."
He shrugs, and sits down dangerously close beside me. AJ mutters something under her breath that sounds an awful like, "he's going to have an aneurysm."
She's not wrong, but what can I do, if I get up now I'll only draw unwanted attention. I look up at Leo, “I’m hoping it won’t always be this way. Okay?”
He smiles, and kisses my forehead. Which is sweet, but I can’t take any joy from it. Like static electricity that comes when lightning is near, I don't have to glance back at Kai to know that he knows.
AJ elbows me, but I stomp on her foot. "I'm not looking."
However, when Leo wraps me up in his arms, I can't stop my gaze from shifting towards the field. If looks could kill, Kai's storm ravaged eyes would deliver more than just a warning shot.
Surprisingly, Kai does nothing else. Which makes Leo more confident this time. He doesn’t understand what I do, that Kai is just waiting to strike.
Halftime comes and goes, and the breath I was holding releases slowly when he walks back onto the field. Thankfully, he’s decided not to make a spectacle until later.
My thanks comes too soon as Kai sends us a bone chilling smile. Declan McLain, his best friend, and faithful member of the Brotherhood, ascends the bleachers towards us, with that easy swagger of his. He's sent him to do what he couldn't.Fuck!
Kai knows I'd rather die than cause a scene. Declan's voice isdeep and smooth as honey. "Come sit with me in VIP, Presley Kate."
Sighing, I nod my head. "I'm sorry, Leo, I need to go."
