I stuff the contract under my shirt. This is some crazy shit, and I have to get out of here and read it in peace to figure out what’s going on.

But if Mauro lied to Alessandro, and if he’s been pretending all this time...

“Sienna!” My father’s angry voice echoes through the room. “What are you doing in here?”

I spin around, closing the safe and hoping my father won’t notice I opened it.

My father’s face is flushed red, his nostrils flaring.

I guess it’s too late to hide anything.

“How dare you enter my office?” he yells.

“You know Mauro Fabbri is Alessandro’s father,” I say.

My father doesn’t even blink.

It’s true.

He knows.

“Did you have something to do with the deaths of Bellini and his sons?” I hold my breath for his answer.

“No.”

“But you knew what Mauro was planning to do. It was him, wasn’t it? He killed them so his son could rule.”

My father says nothing.

Oh fuck.

I run my hand through my hair.

I need to find Alessandro.

I need to tell him.

He needs to know before it’s too late.

But he’s not here with me tonight.

He’s with him.

He’s with the man who had his family murdered.

I try to run past my father, but he catches my arm and yanks me back.

“Where do you think you’re going?”

“Out,” I say.

“You’re not going to tell your husband anything.”

“Why not?”

“Because if you stay quiet, you’re going to become the wife of one of the richest and most powerful men in the world. If you think you have it good now, just think how great things will be when you have more.”

I stare at him in shock. Does he really think it’s money and power that matter to me the most? Like they do to him?
