“No, you can put whatever you like.”“Because I’m saving yours as Sweet Buns.”She titters, shying from my gaze whilst hiding a gleam pushing against her cheeks. My head shakes but can’t refute her level of genius puns.
“Tell me, little troublemaker, are you into secrets no one should know?” Of course she is. Kyra holds more information on others than she will ever expose, perhaps rivaling me.
“It depends on the secret. There’s a saying. The more you know, the greater your enemies.” If I’m supposed to believe this, her expression isn’t doing a good job at hiding the bullshit she handed me wrapped in a cute bow.“I just pulled that out of my ass, and it sounds bad ass. I’m claiming it.”
“I think I’ve heard this saying once or twice.” A titter builds in my throat. I’ll play this game. “And agree. But if the creator of this noble and righteous saying had the pleasures of hearing what I know, they may reconsider.”
Kyra frowns, yet a roaring laugh bursts past her lips. “Okay, Mr. Know-it-all, I’ll bite. What secret would this noble individual be dying to know?”
“TheBook of Bondsis near. Arriving much sooner than expected, and before you ask, yes, I know the precise date it arrives. Will I tell anyone? No. It brings too much chaos, and I’d rather let Eros take the lead.”
“Well shit, this is a secret worth hearing. And I suppose you won’t tell our righteous friend because it’s off limits?” Putting her phone away, she awaits my answer.
“You know, something tells me you may enjoy getting to know one another. Am I wrong in this assumption?” She mimics my intimidating brow, and fuck me, it works. “I want to play a game. We’ll–”
“Okay ‘Saw’…I want to play a game,” she mocks in a low tone.
“Saw? What did you see?”
“No, not, saw, as in seeing, but Saw. Like sawing someone’s leg off. You know, the movie?” We enter a silent stare as she waits for me to understand what this ‘Saw’ is. “Never mind, you spoke of a game?” She waves a dismissive hand.
“Right. We’ll tell each other a secret, and both must swear to keep it. Our goal is to make it throughout the week without exposing it or telling another. But there’s a catch. Either of us can try our hardest in getting the other to expose the opposing secret. Meaning you get me to spill yours and you mine, using whatever tricks and tactics. Whoever wins gets to give a punishment of their choosing to the loser. A reward. If I leak your secret, you may punish me in any way you deem fit. From what I’ve heard, our moral companion used such tactics.”
“Oh, he’s so full of shit. There’s no righteous, noble, or moral companion. And I’m suspecting he knows this. Asshole.”Kyra giggles, but we’re just getting started. “Any secret I choose? Big or small?”
“Any. Secret.” I can see her lips twitching, fighting for a broader smile. “Don’t include information about others. It works best staying between the parties involved. To sweeten this deal, I’ll go first after you accept. No pressure, you–”
“Deal,” she says with grit and determination. Is this her competitive side or a chance at punishing me?“If he only knew secrets and me are BFF’s. Best Forbidden Friends.”Either way, my interest is piqued.
“My redacted information on file shows me having two magical orders, but I have three. Fire, Air, and Earth. Plus, a rare, descended bloodline magic.”
“I’ve heard about those, and damn, three orders. Shit, no wonder you walk around like you’re untouchable.” She chuckles, and a magnetic pull urges me closer. But I refrain, knowing Abraxis has a hand in this sensation somehow. “I’ll keep your secret, despite not understanding why you deem it one, but to have three orders, it must be nice.”
“I wouldn’t say nice, but it comes in handy when others aren’t aware of what you have. A one up your sleeve if you will.”
“You mean ‘Ace.’”
“What’s an Ace?”
Kyra palms her face, and a muffled laugh seeps around it before removing her hand. “It’s okay, I’ll teach you all about the proper sayings. For now, let’s just say it’s an Ace. No push back.”
“Fine, but it’s your turn. And if you surprise me, you’ll get a bonus. I’m feeling generous.” Folding a leg over my thigh, I lean back against the cushion.
“Damn, okay–okay. You gave me a juicy one; let me think.” She bites down on her bottom lip, frowning and rummaging past an assortment of forbidden knowledge. “Got it. Although I’m able to do the hunger-be-gone enchantment every day, I miss eating, and each morning, I die a little inside missing my food. I’ve cried a few times about it. I just want to eat something and feel full…you know?” Pain and anguish blend into one before she waves another dismissive hand. “It’ll be fine. As soon as I can create edible food, I’m binge eating for days.”
Her determination is unmatched. In a place like this, ruthless and unyielding, she is more focused on something this mundane. Astonishing.
“I suppose you gave me a good one. I’ll hold up my end.” Leaning in as though it’s top secret, I whisper, “Don’t tell anyone, but I’m a twin.” I watch her body perk up, jaw unhinged and eyes widened.
“Get the fuck out. Like a real–” She slaps a hand over her mouth at my excited smile, close to spilling my secret already.
I chuckle. “Yes, he and I look identical in every regard, minus a few small details and body markings. Unlike our sister.” Kyra’s leg trembles as though a volcano of questions is on the verge of erupting. “Is there something you’d like to ask me?” I taunt, and she shakes her head in rapid succession.
“Nope,” she says, fighting tooth and foot not to explode.“I wonder if his twin is as fine as him. A nice ass, perfect body, funny, amazing hair…Oh is it red? What about his eyes? Fuck there are so many questions.
“Well, hopefully, one day you’ll get to meet my family. Rather brother and sister. And yes, he and I have the same color eyes, just inverted. Clarrisa, hers are more unique than ours.”
Removing her hand, she bares a high smile, intrigue swimming in those beautiful doe eyes. “I think that’s enough secrets for today.” She giggles.
