Grace had the softest, most trusting eyes.
And the sweetest body.
He took a deep breath and inhaled the moist nectar of her skin.
Her hair fell damp and loose about her shoulders. Unable to resist, he brushed back those wet curls and put his lips to the pulse at the base of her slender neck. That pulse throbbed wildly the moment he placed a soft kiss to the spot.
Then he licked his tongue along the apple of her throat and kissed her lightly there.
She shuddered as he drew away. “Why did you kiss me like that?”
“Why do you think?”
“I don’t know…to taste me?”
He nodded. “Did you like it?”
“You know I did.” Her breaths quickened, drawing his attention to the rise and fall of her chest. “Deklan…”
“Yes, Grace?”
“What will happen if I let you do it again?”
“You cannot encourage me. It is too dangerous.” His chuckle more closely resembled a groan. “I shall have that chemise off you, be kissing and tasting your breasts, and probably expire from the ecstasy of it.”
She glanced away, and closed her eyes a moment to steady her breath. “So will I.”
Had she really just said that?
Was she inviting him to–
A knock at their door shook both of them back to their senses.
Grace’s face turned to flames again. “Oh, my heavens! What am I saying?”
She reached for her robe and began to fumble with it once more. “You must think I am the lowliest wanton.”
“Stop, Grace. You have the garment upside down.” He took it from her hands and helped her put her arms through the sleeves. “And you are the sweetest girl in existence. Do not be ashamed of the feelings we have for each other. Liking my kisses does not make you a woman of loose morals.”
“It doesn’t?”
He laughed. “No, love. Far from it.”
He kissed her on the forehead. “I am going to open the door and let Suzie in now. Let her help you with whatever else you need to do. I’ll turn away whenever necessary. I give you my oath on it. But I am not leaving this room again. All right?”
She nodded.
He unlatched the door and allowed the maid in. “Ah, fresh water. Thank you, Suzie.”
The girl giggled. “Shall I help you to dress, Mrs. Driscoll?”
“Yes, please. That would be lovely.”
Deklan picked upThe Book of Lovewhile Grace and her maid continued with whatever they had been doing.
It took him a while to calm down and begin to read. He ignored their chatter and now tried to concentrate on the first page and its opening sentences.Love does not come from the heart but from the brain. It is the brain that sends signals throughout the body, telling you what to feel.
Well, how about that?
