Titan said,Mate is talking.
You’re right. Now Bosse had to make his way quietly around thirty yards of tree line to reach her, but the undergrowth between them would slow him down. That didn’t matter. Better to circle through the woods and get her to safety first, then come back.
That would give him time to scold her for running into danger.
Then kiss her.
He heard Alifair tell someone, “You two stay hidden here.”
Had she found her friend and Magdelina? He’d have to move all three women to a safe place and talk to Alifair later.
Titan warned,Beast is here!
Before Bosse could put his plan into action, Beast strode up the dirt road leading to the ruins. The part-rhino’s head jerked in Bosse’s direction the minute it caught his scent.
Beast immediately shifted into a black rhino. In addition to a large horn shooting up from his snout, two smaller ones jutted from each side of his mouth. Sharp tips as if filed down.
Even in a full shift, that thing did not look right.
Ignoring Bosse, Beast pounded toward the castle, bellowing a threat.
Oh, hell no. That monster had terrified Alifair when he snuck out during the castle battle and fingered her as the one who helped Bosse escape. If it was true rhinos had poor eyesight over a distance, Beast still might be able to smell the women with Alifair.
Bosse would not risk him getting near her.
He told Titan,Take the body and protect our mate.
His wolf pushed hard through the change and felt stronger than he had in a long time. Titan leaped from the woods and howled at Beast.
The screwed-up-looking rhino slid to a stop and swung all that weight around to face the attack.
Bosse warned Titan,Watch out for all three horns.
Alifair shouted, “Nooo!”
Titan glanced that way.
Alifair must have gotten the women to the trees. She was in full view with hands raised and chanting her strange words while heading toward a two-ton supernatural rhino.
