Then Magdelina screamed at someone to hurry, but Alifair wanted to tell them fate listened to no one.
The world darkened. Her hand fell limp against her mate’s shoulder.
Chapter 52
Bosse heard strangesounds.
Heaven must be a busy place.
On second thought, maybe hell had claimed him. He’d taken many lives and would face his penalty like a man. He only wished Titan did not have to join him. His wolf had never taken a life unless under attack and facing death.
Sounding half awake, Titan murmured,Neither did you.
Was it wrong of Bosse to be thankful he had one friend here? Probably.
As he woke up, so did his body, and it hurt like a mother. Why was he in pain? Wouldn’t he at least arrive in the afterlife healed? Maybe not.
No point in putting off the inevitable. He blinked his eyes, glad to find himself in low light.
He reached for the aching gash in his chest, finding an angry scar not yet healed.
“Do not touch that.”
Oh, mercy, was that Alifair? He whispered, “I can’t be in hell if you’re here.”
Her laughter tinkled, and then she groaned. “Don’t make me laugh. I’m better, but not enough to move too much.”
Tracking the sound of her sweet voice, he turned his head to the left, and his eyes focused. She sat in a chair with pillows stuffed around her. Her clean hair fell in fluffy dark waves to her shoulders. Her skin had been a grayish color the last time he saw her. Now, she had healthy pink cheeks and those rosy lips he loved to kiss.
He croaked out, “Are we alive?”
Smiling, she nodded and reached her hand to his.
He closed his fingers around her warm hand and squeezed his eyes shut, fighting back tears. When he opened them, she was still smiling at him. “I am so happy we made it, but how did we survive being so far from a healer?”
Leaning forward, she lifted his hand to kiss. Her unusual eyes shined with joy. “I was as surprised as you. They got me stabilized first because my injury was not as deep as yours.”
