Who could she be? Better yet, whatcould she be with all that power?
Krol turned to Alifair. “Take care of Magdelina’s needs. She is my guest.”
Magdelina swung a disgusted gaze at Krol that one would give a slimy rat.
Unfazed by her disgust, he made one thing clear. “You will stay here until told to leave.” He addressed Alifair. “If myguesttries to leave, you will be killed for allowing her to attempt it.”
Chapter 20
Alifair’s jaw fellat the threat of being sanctioned with death if this pregnant woman tried to escape.
Krol retained his pleasant expression, but his voice dropped to a low, menacing sound. “Is there a problem?”
A problem. Try a thousand problems.
Alifair had to find out how long she’d be stuck in here. She recovered to shake her head and say, “I was only wondering if you want me to make plans to sleep up here?”
“No. She is only staying a few hours while I join Eriko to complete the interrogations.”
What else did he intend to do? Hadn’t Eriko said she was the last person to interrogate?
The door snapped shut, and the lock clicked as loud as a death knell in the suddenly silent room.
Now she’d have to wait until this woman was gone before she could resume her search for Rez. With nothing else to do, Alifair turned to Magdelina, hoping to find out anything she could about Krol’s next plans.
Then she realized she’d been locked in a room with an unknown captive she suspected of having some level of power.
Her life just sucked more by the minute.
She needed to find some sort of mutual ground with this woman who was important to Krol. “I’m sorry for you to be in this position while pregnant. Where did Krol capture you?”
“I’m from Austria. Krol didn’t actually capture me.” Then she clarified, “He has a strange bird beast that literally picked me up off the ground and flew me away. Its claws did something to neutralize my ability to fight, but it wore off once it set me on the ground at Krol’s feet. I’m clearly no small woman and carrying a shifter’s cub. I still can’t believe what it did.”
Alifair had wondered about that thing’s claws after hearing how it had stunned the sheep. “You’re a shifter?”
“No. My mate is alpha of a bear clan.” Magdelina put her hand on her back and stepped over to the bed to ease her burdened body to the mattress. “My mate will be ripping the land apart to find me.”
