He might be hurt worse than he realized. No time to think.

Stumbling, the buffalo pushed up from its knees and shook off the brutal hit that would have killed many animals.

Bosse had dropped to the ground on all fours to help Titan however he could. Titan pushed power into the last part of the shift. It happened so fast the pain blinded Bosse. When his vision cleared to see through Titan’s eyes, the buffalo wove from side to side, still shaking its head.

Blood streamed from the injury on Titan’s side. His wolf would show no pain but could still pass out if they lost enough blood.

That buffalo hadn’t truly been enraged before.

Not compared to the insane beast eyeing him now and snorting so hard fire should be shooting from its nostrils.

Titan tried to run to the left, then to the right, but the buffalo moved quickly, cutting all that weight back and forth like a rodeo horse blocking a calf. Nothing would appease that black demon except Titan’s body ripped to pieces.

Titan said,Not sure this works, but we lose too much blood to fight long.

Bosse had no chance to ask what his wolf was going to do before Titan spun in a fast circle that started moving to the right. He’d confused the buffalo that paused, staring hard, grunting aggressively, clearly waiting for the optimum moment to attack.

When Titan came out of his spin, he wobbled with dizziness.

The buffalo lifted its head and made a loud chuff sound that might have been laughter. Then it came in a fast walk for Titan and picked up speed.

Bosse warned,Get ready.

Titan turned toward the buffalo, shaking off his blurred vision.

Not seeing a good outcome, Bosse urged,Run. Try to wear it out.

We will tire first,Titan argued.

The buffalo rushed its last steps. Titan rolled to the side, shoved up, and leaped on the buffalo’s shoulder. He struggled to dig in a claw, but nothing was breaking through the tough skin.

The buffalo bounced and bucked, wrenching one way and then the other.

One of Titan’s claws snagged a hold, but not enough for his body to hang against all that jerking and jumping around.

As Titan started sliding down, a horn caught his softer wolf body and tossed him against the wall with a sickening smack.

Bosse groaned, and fire burned their insides, but he urged,Get up, Titan. Don’t let him stomp you.

His wolf had landed upside down in a pile of legs.

At the sound of the buffalo bellowing in victory, Titan rolled over and forced his legs under him. Then he turned to face another attack. He told Bosse,I can try one more thing. If I fail, we die.

Bosse would never stop fighting with his wolf ready to battle on, but part of him sometimes longed for an end to all of this.

He said,If it doesn’t work, then we finally escape forever.

Either overconfident or fearful of hitting the wall again if tricked, the buffalo headed for Titan at a steady trot with its head up and ready to kill.

When the buffalo was six feet away, Titan dropped low and launched his body over its head, landing on its back but closer to the neck.

That shocked the buffalo for all of a second before it erupted in a jumping fit.

Titan slid to one side, claws digging hard to hang on. He bit the buffalo’s neck and got his body tossed on top with the buffalo’s next buck. Titan clawed the softer skin and took a bigger bite this time.

Bosse had faith in his wolf, but this was like riding an angry building trying to throw them off. How long would it take Titan’s claws to reach something vital?

The buffalo jumped around and rammed its side into the wall.
