Caelynn

Rev’s hands on my skinfelt so incredibly good that I didn’t have the will to stop him. I melted into his touch, his kisses, and for those moments, I could pretend that everything wasn’t crashing down around us.

And it was worth it.

But now, now I have to face reality.

“He wanted me to be there. He wanted me to see it,” I whisper, trying to keep my voice calm and steady. “He wanted me to watch as he destroyed Raven too.”

Rev’s palm is on my cheek suddenly. “Are you okay?”

I nod. “I saw it coming. I was faster than he expected, and I shadow leaped onto Raven’s ship before he could smash it to bits.”

Rev frowns, his brow furrowing.

“He couldn’t destroy the ship while I was on it—the bargain.”

Rev swallows and then pulls me against him.

“His fist stopped before it hit the ship, but the waves crashed against it anyway, and the female ancient, Rose, flicked us away. I don’t know if it was to help us or out of annoyance, but a wave carried us all the way back to shore and smashed the ship against the bank. Raven was okay, but kind of out of it. She said her friends would take care of her.”

Rev frowns. “You left her and came straight here?”

I nod. “She... they’re her friends, Rev. The spell book conveniently left that part out.”

“What?”

“It’s complicated. But apparently Blake has been keeping Raven away from his brother for her protection. That’s why they’ve been hiding in the human realm. Blane and Aurora promised to take her somewhere safe now. I told them I’d find them again soon.”

“That’s... that’s insane.”

“I know.”

Rev pulls in a long breath. “What now?” he whispers.

“Now, they have the ancient of the lake, and we only have one choice.”

“No,” Rev says firmly, his voice shaking. “We... shit, Cae. The Ancient King has been talking to me. Sending me messages.”

I pause. “What kind of messages?”
