Rev

That bastard king putme in an impossible fight. Blindfolded and deaf. I utter curse after curse at the asshole as I heal my wounds from my unknown opponent.

What is the point of this? He’s just taunting me.

My anger only increases as my opponent lands hit after hit. They sliced my shoulder wide open, and I was only able to do a surface healing on it. It stings like a mother now, and it has me weakened. But I will not give up.

I will win this.

This time, when I swing, my super speedy opponent dodges and somehow curls behind me. A small hand wraps around my blade wrist and twists violently. I feel a snap, and streaks of pain shoot up my arm.

My blade falls to the water.

Damn it!

Without missing a beat, I swing my fist back and land a shattering blow to their head. The splash and ground quaking tells me they fell, hard. I leap on top of them, knowing without my weapon, I’m at a disadvantage—even more than before.

The slight body wriggles beneath me, but I manage to pin their legs between mine. I struggle with their hands, trying to get a grip. Instead, I find their throat. Small, so small.

A female, maybe?

She’s screaming, I can feel the reverberation beneath my hands. Screaming desperately as I squeeze her throat with both hands. Her hips buck, and then she shoves the base of her palm between my arms and straight into my nose. I don’t need my ears to hear the crack as my head whips back. I curse as she uses the opportunity to shove me off. Blood pours down my front, and I seethe.

Before I’m even able to stand up right the female fighter flies at me, slamming me onto the ground back first. She’s screaming still, those small vibrations tingling into my chest. She’s too small to pin me entirely though, and I spin her around so that she’s below me.

But she twists, snaping both arms out, and then she jerks in toward me. I wince, almost expecting her to bite me but instead feel the hard press of lips against mine.

My mind freezes for only an instant, and then my body reacts. I roll off of her and pause. I’m on my feet, panting, mind spinning. What the hell is happening?

My limbs are trembling now as I touch my lips gently. She kissed me.

Kissed me.I’m fighting a female. Is she blindfolded too? Is she deaf too?

What if...

Oh God.

I fall to my knees. I’ve been fighting Caelynn. The whole damn time.

I curse again, only this time, it’s not to the Ancient King. It’s to me. How much of an idiot am I? How did I not realize?

The water ripples gently as she approaches. Then, her fingers intertwine in my hair. I lay my chest against her belly, panting desperately. “I’m sorry,” I whisper. Can she even hear me? I don’t know.

She leans over, pulling my chin up and presses her lips to mine again, and this time, I feel such warmth and love and devotion in the kiss. How did I not know? How did it take me so long?

Her fingers gently pull at my blindfold, and it falls away easily. I blink rapidly. It’s still dark and shadowed, but I can see her form now. She’s wearing a blindfold too.

I reach up and pull the cloth off of her, revealing red, tear-streaked eyes.

“Are you okay?” I ask, my voice finally audible.

She nods, her eyes still sad but full of such beautiful adoration. “Are you?”
