“Your turn?” I ask, heart pounding harder than before as I’m faced with this new threat. I still don’t know what his species is. How powerful is he? I’m not certain the powder would even have worked on him, but that won’t matter now because I only had one.
My fear is building. Something tells me this one wouldn’t be so easy to beat.
I was assuming one use of potion and my point would be settled—they’d stop messing with me.
He nods to the vampire, and the fae boy grabs his frozen form by the waist and drags him away.
The strange guy holds up his hands in surrender. “I’m not as dumb as he is,” he says with a smirk. “I won’t be baited, nor would I take you against your will. But I will make one quick offer.”
I swallow.
“Your prince hasn’t been around in a while. So if you happen to be feeling lonely, I’m willing to help.” His smirk is somehow both handsome and slightly unhinged. “I’ve heard demons don’t mind sharing—”
The voice cuts off with a roar and a crash as two forms slam into the wall by me. I flinch, and stumble another step back.
My heart lifts at the sight of a very sexy demon prince with hair falling into his eyes, hand around the taunting boy’s throat.
“Let me be very clear,” Jarron growls. “I. Do. Not. Share.”
Uhh, the things that voice and those words do to me right now are not PG 13. My chest rises and falls. The other two boys have already scattered, but the one against the wall has a fierce scowl. “It was just an offer,” he forces out.
“That you will never make again,” Jarron says. “You might think yourself big and important, but this is my domain, and she ismine.”
I barely hold back a whimper. God, I’m such a fangirl.
“Where’s that vampire,” Jarron growls.
The boy bares is teeth. “It’s not Jacks fault you haven’t claimed her yet. Maybe you should get on that if she means that much to you.”
Jarron releases the boy’s neck and straightens. “Get out of my sight. And if that vampire ever so much as looks in her direction again I’ll rip his throat out with my bare hands.”
The green-eyed boy looks like he wants to say more. His eyes dart to me, but then he nods, and smoothly turns and walks in the opposite direction.
A direct threat from Jarron and yet he’s generally unnerved.
I shake my head, amazed that he doesn’t even seem to fear Jarron. Who is he?
Jarron’s dark gaze sweeps over me and instantly my heart warms, everything else forgotten.
My mind spins through so many different memories.
The boy I cared for years ago.
The boy who terrified me. The boy I ran from.
The boy I hated and plotted to destroy for assumed crimes, but who slowly and carefully proved me wrong, day by day.
The boy I fell for, despite conflicting feelings.
The boy I still fear, for so many reasons, including that I want him too badly.
“Sunshine,” he says in that smooth baritone voice that sends a shiver down my spine.
I fall into his arms without another thought.
His warmth envelops me. His power unnerves me in the best possible way, and I am completely lost in him.
I push those thoughts away and look up at him with a bright smile. Something in his chest rattles. That little purr he does on occasion that I’ve come to adore.
