In the end, had I learned it all the other way around, that he was a Mafia man before this Romano threat increased, I would’ve chosen him. In my heart, I had already committed to choosing him.

Anastasia stayed and talked too, completing this long introductory process.

“And truly, if you’re not a fan of a big wedding, that is okay.” She snuggled Aurora. “I’m just happy to have all these babies and granddaughters. So much family to spoil and love.”

I wiped a tear from my eyes at her sweetness.

Sloane leaned in toward me to stage-whisper, “Don’t let her fool you. She’s holding out for one big wedding.”

I laughed, loving how easy it was to laugh and let my heart be so light and carefree like this. I never gave much thought to finding my family, since I had been born with one that ended up being so cruel to me, but I had. I had found my family, and I felt so blessed that they would accept me and my son as we were.

Lucy showed me all the texts Damon sent her to keep me posted. Pictures at the pool where another boy Oscar’s age, theson of the gardener on the grounds, splashed around with him. Then more pictures of Damon with Oscar at lunch. Then playing with a puppy that they were having trained as a sniffing dog. And then at the pool again.

It felt like a surreal dream coming true that Oscar would not only have a dad with Saul now, but also uncles and aunts. And a grandfather and great-grandmother as well. Anastasia seemed to be getting ahead of herself to have another child in the family.

I wouldn’t rush anything, but so far, the welcome was genuine and wonderful.

Over the next couple of days, Saul worked with his brothers, and Oscar and I got used to being there. Monday morning, I started the process for Oscar to transfer to the school the gardener’s son went to, a more protected institution that Saul assured me was safe. So long as Oscar could go with his new friend, he was happy.

Without Oscar at home, I tried to learn more and more about life here. Lucy and Sloane were helpful, giving me tips on how to adjust. They’d been “outsiders” like me, so their opinions and advice were relative. But Katerina and Anastasia gave me guidance too.

I wasn’t afraid to ask questions, but I quickly gathered that some things were just better left unexplained and not talked about when it came to business matters.

Getting to know all the nieces and his nephew was a good distraction, too, but every time I slowed down and let my mind wander, I wondered if that cop had been found yet, if Saul was safe as he “worked” and if Oscar was overwhelmed with so many changes.

When I went back to the apartment to prepare an afterschool snack for Oscar, I looked up when Saul walked into the room. He loosened the knot of his tie and smiled at me. “Honey, I’m home,” he sing-songed, still the charmer.

“There you are.” I ran to him and hugged him, but he turned it into picking me up and kissing me deeply.

“I haven’t seen or heard from you all day.”

He kissed me again and again, carrying me to the bedroom.

“Is it always like that?” I asked, surprised when he tugged at my shirt to lift it off. “Wait, Oscar will be here soon and?—”

He kissed me, lowering us to the bed together until he was seated at the edge and I straddled him. “I asked Sloane to watch for him and keep him preoccupied.”

“Oh?” I grinned, seeing where this was going.

“Because I wanted to tell you something.” He kept stripping us of our clothes, kissing me between his movements.

“Not show me?” I teased.

“That too.”

He paused in taking his pants off to get a ring box out. “Like this.” Ever the joker, he set the ring box right above where his bare cock jutted out.

I laughed, standing only long enough to finish getting naked.

“I wanted to wait to propose, you know. Make it all romantic.”

I seated myself on his thick cock until we both moaned. “This is romantic.”

“This is filthy,” he argued as I rode him quickly, needing that friction.

“This is perfect.”

He moaned his agreement, opening the box and showing me the ring. “Will you—” He growled as I rode him again, arching my back to take him deeper. “Oh, fuck.”
