flatten her palms against his chest, open her mouth on
his skin, sink her teeth in his flesh as he pushed inside
her.
She didn’t have words for how that made her feel.
Pissed off. At him. At herself. Embarrassed. Wary. So
she changed the subject.
“What’s out there?”
“Nothing good. And there’s more than one.”
Roxy opened her senses and reached for the
unknown. Energy crackled through her like a half dozen
cans of Red Bull hitting her system all at once, prickling
and dancing and leaving the fine hairs on her arms
standing upright. The something that was out there was
moving in fast, and it was definitely more than just one
something.
“Have you gone up against a supernatural before?”
He paused. “Other than me?” Definitely amusement in
his tone. Probably because she’d just been plastered
against him about as up close as she could get. Or because she hadn’t exactly gone up against him the first

time they met. More like sat there and let him happen
to her.
“I’ve taken on a few Topworlders with a hint of
supernatural.” None of them any stronger than Frank
Marin. And, like him, they hadn’t proved much of a
challenge. “Once, a lesser demon who works as an
enforcer for Hades.” Which had been a bit more than
a challenge.
“How’d that turn out?”
