“Any idea whatwewant with her?”
“No.” Not yet. But soon. Because his gut was telling
him that Roxy might have the answers to his questions.
And he meant to stick closer than glue on a stamp until
she shared. “Which is why you’re going after Xaphan’s
concubines, and I’m going after the kid. With Ms.
Tam.” He shot her another hard look.
She gave him a tight smile and turned away, as
though their discussion was of absolutely no interest
to her, but he noticed that she kept looking at Gahiji,
clearly trying to get a good look at him despite the
darkness. Not a likelihood.
But the thing that ground at him was the fact that
Gahiji was watching her, too.
Suddenly, Gahiji let out a low hiss and struck like a
snake, catching hold of Roxy’s wrist and shoving the
tatters of her coat sleeve up to her elbow.
“What the fuck?” she snarled, and she slammed the
heel of her hand against the reaper’s nose. He moved
his head only enough to avoid the blow. Then he let her
go and took a single step back, his head swiveling as
he settled a dark glare on Dagan.
“She is of the Asetian Guard,” Gahiji said, his voice
low.
Roxy took a step to the side, taking her away from
Gahiji, and even farther away from Dagan. He didn’t like
that. His instincts were clanging like a firehouse bell.
“Roxy,” he murmured.
