She glanced back over her shoulder, her expression
guarded. Then she closed her hand over the opposite
forearm, as though guarding her mark. She slid one
foot toward him, but Gahiji took another step, placing
himself directly between Dagan and Roxy.

SINS OF THE HEART
The clanging bell turned into a full alarm fire.
“We’re working toward a common goal,” Dagan
offered, subtly claiming her as an ally and under his
protection.
The tension coming off Gahiji crackled in the air.
Alastor moved closer to Dagan’s side.
“A common goal,” Gahiji echoed, his tone flat and
cold. “What protection do you have from treachery?
She knows your face, and now ours.”
So much for subtle.
“Not yours. It’s too dark.” Dagan took a step. Gahiji
took a step. “This isn’t your call, Gahiji. She’s mine.”
Roxy backed up, clearly sensing the tension. Unfortunately, she backed away, rather than toward him. Not
that she had much choice. Gahiji stood squarely between them now.
“You have erred, Dagan Krayl.” There was accusation there. A hint of belligerence.
“Dagan!”
He heard Alastor’s warning a split second after his
own instincts shot into overdrive. Too fucking late.
Gahiji moved, a blur of speed and deadly intent.
Dagan surged forward but felt like he stood still. He
leaped, twisted, reached for Roxy even as she leaped
toward him. Her movement brought her face-to-face
with Gahiji.
