his fist a couple of times. Good as new.
If you can heal like that, heal anything, how the
fuck did the Setnakhts kill one of you?
Mal’s question echoed Roxy’s, and Dagan didn’t
have an answer for either of them.

SINS OF THE HEART
Because he could come up with very few possibilities except a traitor in Sutekh’s ranks, working with
the Setnakhts. Who themselves were supposed to be
worshippers of Sutekh. So why would they go after one
of the old man’s sons?
Could they not have known who Lokan was? Could
that be the answer? But then why wouldn’t Lokan simply have revealed his identity? Or annihilated them
all? Either option would have saved him.
And as for a traitor…those closest to Sutekh were
his sons, and Gahiji.
Gahiji? The fucker was eternally loyal to the old
man. Why would he kill Sutekh’s spawn?
But without a supernatural’s help, how could a cult
of mortals have taken Lokan down?
Which circled right back to the possibility of a
traitor.
The worm had uncoiled in his thoughts, and he
couldn’t shake it now. It was no secret Gahiji had never
quite approved of Lokan. Not that he’d overtly displayed it by word or action. It was just something the
brothers sensed.
“You ever find out why Gahiji went for Roxy like
that?” Mal asked.
“Other than the fact that she’s a Daughter of Aset?”
Dagan’s tone was dry.
