Genuine terror congealed in her gut. Calliope was

cutting her loose. After ten years of security, ten years

of having a family with the Daughters of Aset, she was

going to be left with nothing. She thought of her mom.

She thought of her foster parents. She thought of

Rhianna, her sister in everything but blood. Every single one of them had cut her loose. They’d fuckingdied

and left her alone.

bobbing, a small solitary boat in a roiling sea.

Her breath came in hard gasps, the pain in her heart

a twisting agony. She breathed, breathed, tried to focus
