“Do not make any porn music sounds, please,” Zoe said with a laugh.
“I wasn’t going to, my mate, but you know me all too well.” He kissed her forehead. “What I was going to say was that we could go over there and mess with their house—you know, some fun pranks for when they return.”
“I don’t think Pandora will be amused,” I said. “She’d probably never go on a vacation again—or trust you with her cats.”
“Oh, all right,” Lucas conceded with a frown. “No pranks.” He slanted his head. “It was just going to be cheeky ones.”
“No,” both Zoe and I said in unison and laughed.
“She deserves to have a relaxed vacation without worrying about her house,” I added.
“And to spend some quality time with her mate,” Zoe added.
Lucas raised his index finger. “That I can get on board with.” He then gave Zoethe look—the one I sometimes caught him doing when he looked at Zoe. It was the same one that I’d seen others do when they looked at their mates. It was a look that a small part of me deep down wondered about. Would anyone ever look at me that way?
Not likely. I’d only been in one serious relationship, but he’d never looked at me like that. Actually, he might have looked at some of the other women he’d cheated on me with that way. The only good thing that resulted from our time together was our daughter, Paige.
She was my priority, the main focus in my life. But she was also getting older and didn’t need me as much as she did when she was little. Part of that scared me a little. It had been the two of us for so long. What would happen when she grew up and moved out?
Did that mean I’d be alone forever?
