Lola hugged herself, uncertain. Renee hated seeing her like this, pulled in two so hard she was splitting at the seams—especially when one direction was so transparently what Lola truly wanted.
“You don’t understand,” Lola said. “There’s all this pressure I’m under.”
Renee put her arms around Lola again. Maybe it was too much, but she only wanted to comfort her. As gorgeous as Lola was in that dress, she also looked small, and cold, and Renee wanted to hold her close and make sure she was safe and warm forever.
“I can see the pressure you’re under. I can see that it’s tearing you apart. It’s okay to leave. If you need permission, I’m giving it to you.” An idea-shaped bubble rose to the surface of Renee’s brain. She gave Lola one last squeeze. “Let me take you away from this, Lo.”
You are not going to look at this picture from the Fit to Live red carpet and tell me these two are a happy couple.
