“So, you came.”

This time, she lifted her head to gaze at me.

“Yeah. Ted said you really needed me to be here although I don’t know why,” she replied, shifting to the side as two men passed us. I took a hold of her arm and moved her closer to me, keeping her close.

“You know why,” I told her, waiting for her to pay attention to me fully. “You’ve been avoiding me but there was something I need to say to you. So, I need you to hear it. Iwant to see you after the show, so please, wait for me. Listen to the rest of the show. Ok?”

“Alright,” she murmured, sighing as she did so. Her shoulders drooped, her features giving off the demeanour that she was resigned to this fate. Good. It meant she would hear us.

“I need you front and centre, Kate. I need to see you when I sing,” I murmured into her hair as I pressed a quick kiss to her head, then I turned and ran back on stage, leaving her staring after me. I made my way back to the centre of the stage, smiling and waving at our screaming fans as Benny and Joel took their places behind me. I gave them both a thumbs up, the signal I’d chosen to let them know when we would play our new song, so they were prepared. Immediately, their gaze went to the crowd, landing on Kate in the front row at the centre. Grins split their faces as she waved awkwardly to them, knowing they were focused on her.

“Alright folks!” I called out into the microphone. “We’ve got something a little bit special for you tonight! The lads and I wrote a brand new song this week and we’re going to play it for you right here, right now.” The crowd let out an almighty roar at this. “This is for a very special person who is in the crowd tonight, so that she can finally listen to what we have to say. Kate, this is for you.”

Kate’s face grew slack at the realisation as I began to play, keeping my attention on her the whole time. I just hoped she’d like it.

‘(Verse) When we were younger,

We were always together.

You were our family, our heart.

Theday you left,

You broke our hearts,

But then you came back into our lives unexpectedly…

(Chorus) We want you to come back home,

Back in to our world.

This used to be your world,

You’re a part of our family.

(Verse) I never had the courage to tell you,

The way I felt about you,

But that’s all going to change

Now that you’re right in front of me.

I will always love you,

I always have.

(Chorus) We want you to come back home,

Back in to our world.

This used to be your world,

You’re a part of our family.

(Bridge) We carried on without you,

But nothing’s been the same.
