The smile that crossed his lips made his face glow, and he kissed her. He wrapped his arms around her and held her. He just held her, warm and safe.
“What now?” he whispered in her ear.
She shifted back a little so she could look at him. “I lied when I said I had no plans after tonight. I have big plans, and it involves a new band. A female-fronted, hardcore heavy metal band. An old friend of mine is a kick-ass guitar player.” She smiled at him. “But we need a drummer.”
His eyes lit up, and he cocked his head to the side. “Are you asking me to be in your new band?”
She nodded. “I have a lot of music, Dillon, and it’s good. I think this band can be a huge success, and I want to share the stage with you again. I want us to enjoy success again. Together.”
He looked at her with disbelief. “Are you serious?”
“Yes. Do you want to know the name of the band?”
He looked at her eagerly. “What’s the name of the band?”
She smiled and paused for effect. “Afterlife.”
A happy laugh flew from his mouth. “I love it. It’s perfect. I think it’s going to be really great. I can’t wait to make music with you again, but, this time, under totally different circumstances. We can work together for a change instead of against each other.” He looked up to the ceiling, his eyes darting back and forth, and let out a small laugh. “I can’t even imagine what that’s going to be like.”
“I can, and it’s going to be amazing.”
“It is,” he agreed.
They snuggled together, and she put her head on his shoulder again. It was the perfect ending to the perfect night. She bid farewell to Blind Fury with a spectacular finish, and she left behind a lot of bitter resentment. She had a promising opportunity ahead of her, she had a new life, a new band, and a new man to share it with.
