“Fuck,”she cried. “That feels so good. You…” The words were hardly more than a pant. “How are you so good at this?”
I pulled back, keeping her legs apart and nuzzling against the soft skin of her thighs. “Can’t help it when you taste so fucking delectable, babe.” Like sugar. She was so sweet, I couldn’t believe I hadn’t been doing this to her every single day.
Her fluttered eyes drifted shut as I dropped my mouth to her again, applying pressure to her clit with my thumb as I continued to bury my tongue inside of her pussy.
She cried out as a flood of wetness coated my tongue, and I closed my eyes as I drank it up, knowing she’d probably soaked my face and not even caring.
I was half-hard again already, just from eating her out, but I didn’t even care about me. I was on cloud fucking nine, and I could take care of myself again later.
Climbing up the bed, I pressed a soft kiss to her lips before shifting us so I could pull her body into mine, spooning her and draping one arm over her abdomen to keep her in place. I ran my hands down her body, tracing her curves, and Eryne relaxed into my hold, her head resting on my chest.
“Mmm.” She hummed as I traced circles on her soft skin of her thighs.
I kissed her shoulder. “Good?”
“Better than good,” she said, letting out a dreamy sigh. “Like, wow. That’s never been like that for me before.”
I wrapped my arms around her waist, pulling her in close to me, enjoying the feeling of her naked skin against mine. There was something extra special about holding her like this, something that soothed every jagged edge of mine when I had my mate in my arms.
“It’s never been like this for me before, either,” I admitted, pressing a kiss to her forehead.
I needed to tell her—and soon. But after tonight, I didn’t know how she’d react. When Cait had brought up the potential for soulmates, she’d frozen. Did she not want to find her mate?
She hummed, resting her arms on my bare chest, draping her naked body over my torso. “Tell me more about you. I realized the other day that I don’t actually know that much about you. You told me you were from Vermont, but…”
I chuckled. “What do you want to know?”
“Do you have any family?” Eryne asked me, running her fingers through my hair. It was getting too long, and in desperate need of a cut, but I hadn’t wanted to spend too much time away from her. Luckily, I’d picked up a razor one of my first days in town, so I’d been able to keep my beard from growing in.
“I do.” I pictured my sister, her long auburn hair and obsession with cardigans and books. “I have a younger sister, Freya. She’s actually a librarian back home. Our town is a lot like Pleasant Grove. Humans don’t know we exist, and we prefer it that way after we were hunted to almost extinction a few hundred years ago. Nowadays, wolves tend to keep to pack life.” We were a social race, living in mated pairs and family units.
“So… you were safe.” Her lips formed a soft smile.
I nodded. “It was the best place to grow up. Freya and I were always close, and we did everything together. I couldn’t have asked for a better childhood. It’s a great place to raise a family.”
I wondered what life would look like if I took her home to Walnut Ridge. With two ginger haired kids, ones that could shift and use magic as easy as snapping their fingers. It was all so vivid in my mind. Almost like I could reach out and touch it.
With Eryne by my side, our life would be filled with warmth and laughter. Curling up by the fireplace together. Keeping her warm during the winters. Letting her ride on my back as I ranthrough the woods in wolf form, so she could feel the wind whipping against her skin like I did. Watching her carry our children, bringing those sweet and innocent pups into the world.
But it wasn’t real. I had to remember that. As much as I wanted her, she wasn’t mine.
Not yet.
“How’d you get into this line of business?” She paused. “And what exactly does your family think you do?”
“Private security.”
She bust out laughing. “What?”
“No, I’m serious. I used to be in training to be a cop, actually. Went through the whole academy and graduated, but then… it didn’t feel right. I got recruited to be a part of the huntsman force, and the rest is history.”
“Wow. That’s crazy. Though I’m not sure what I really expected, honestly.” Eryne ran her fingers across my freckles, like she was tracing constellations on my skin. “It’s just strange to think there’s a whole force of people whose job it is to catch monsters and keep the rest of us safe.”
“Mmm. Well, someone has to do it. Might as well be me. It wasn’t like I was attached to anyone back home.” That was a topic we hadn’t covered yet.
“No long term girlfriends or a wife I should know about then, huh?” The question sounded innocent, but I knew what she was really asking.
I tugged on a strand of her hair. “Why, were you concerned, sugar?”
