“Fucking telepathy?”

“Something like that, yes,” I said, rubbing a fingertip over his full lower lip as he squeezed me tight.

He nipped at my finger before kissing it. “I’d have to be fucking crazy to think you’re telling the truth.”

“But you do.”

“Fuck.” He heaved a sigh, his gaze seeing right into my soul. “I do,” he confirmed, even though he experienced my belief.

His lack of hesitation or doubt in accepting what I had shared filled me with joy, and the tether between us radiated the same emotion back to me. I had found what I craved, and nothing would be able to tear my mind from his or the consuming need for his touch.

I rolled to my side to face him, our bodies pressed tight and tingling with growing arousal. I considered all I had, what fate had given us.

Alpha.

My dragon’s whisper sent another pang through my heart.

Jaxon’s brow furrowed, darkening his eyes. “What?”

An attempted smile twitched my lips but failed as I realized he could feel some of my thoughts, but not those of my inner beast. “It would seem my dragon can’t yet communicate with you.”

“Will it ever?” he asked, still frowning, soothing a hand down my back and pulling me tighter against him.

“Once we’re properly bonded, yes.”

“And how do we do that?”

I bit on the inside of my lip, the ache in my chest spreading.

The furrow in his brow deepened. “Tell me what the fuck is hurting you, sweetheart, ‘cuz I can’t fucking stand to feel your pain like this.”

“Our alpha,” I whispered, hating that tears hazed my vision and choked my voice.

“Alpha…” His brow eased as his mind worked over the word. “As inourmate.”

“Yes.”

“Is there something about dragonbloods you left out?”

“It takes three Blood Born to procreate,” I whispered, my gaze dropping to his chin. “Three mates, fated by destiny, to be together until they rest with the stars.”

Wonder replaced the hurt radiating through our tether. His inner dragon whispered in his head as the image of our alpha wavered in my mind.

“Patrick.” He breathed the name.

“Doctor Macaire,” I whispered, even though the stoic man didn’t want anything to do with me.

Chapter 15

Jaxon

The second Primrose had whispered the wordalpha, a tingling woke inside me, a thirst deeper than she would ever be able to quench. I felt like a goddamn cheating bitch, unworthy of her perfection?—

Primrose pressed her fingers against my lips even though I hadn’t spoken the thought out loud. Seemed she could read my mind easier than I could hers. “Yes, I can, but only because it’s my gift to hear the inner voices of Blood Born. And you’re beyond worthy, so much more than I had hoped for in a beta.”

Beta.

Yessss.
