I’d been alone.

Isolated deep in the Tetons without a connection to fill my emptiness.

Swallowing hard, I set off to familiarize myself with mynew home, quiet as it was, to pass the hours until their return.

Hints of feminine perfume and something sour teased my nose in various rooms, causing my beast to growl with discontentment atop my blues. Ugliness stirred in my belly as I realized I knew nothing about my alpha’s past—who he had let inside this dwelling that belonged to me and my mates.

Restlessness roused in my limbs, and I set my focus on scrubbing every remnant of whoevershewas from my alpha’s domain and keeping busy until my two lovers were once more in my arms.

Cleaning the kitchen took no time at all since Patrick seemed well adept at taking care of his house. No pets meant no dander or fur to sweep up. No children meant no messes, fingerprints on walls, or sticky spills beneath my bare feet.

The thought of two young ones running around my legs, scrambling up the stairs, and laughing, sent an ache through my heart. All females, once mated, desired offspring, but I pushed the longing to the back of my mind.

Patrick needed to entirely commit to our bonding before we could move forward in fulfilling our destiny—never mind my desire to enjoy my mates to the fullest before a young one and its unruly inner dragon occupied my time and attention. While Blood Born of old might see me as selfish, I’d lived with enough heartache to deserve the fulfillment of those things I wanted before setting myself aside to breed and bring another dragonblood to life inside my womb.

I scrubbed the bathroom even though it didn’t need it. I scoured the stove, wiped down the woodwork.

Still restless, house spotless and smelling much better without the stench ofher, I stood out on the porch, eyeing the yard and quiet street with its large lots of desert-likeyards and neighbors’ houses. The sky had cleared somewhat, beckoning, causing my shoulders to itch.

Fly.

I went back inside, leaving the door open, stripped out of sight, and cloaked myself. A quick glance around let me know I could close the door behind me without anyone seeing it supposedly shut on its own.

Three running steps down the road—and no thoughts as to where I headed other than upward toward freedom—I shifted, the first flap of our wings lifting pebbles and dust swirls into the air along with our invisible body. Cool wind rushed over our face, and beyond the electrical and telephone lines, we stretched our wings as our dragon filled our lungs, giddy on being set free for a time.

We jetted straight up until the air grew cold enough its chill licked along our scales. Free-falling, wings tucked tight against our body, sent a rush of adrenaline through our system, the heart, beating beneath flesh and bone—racing.

While lazing through the sky, my human half wondered if our mates would ever learn to soar the skies with us. If they might be taught as dragonblood coached their young, same as Grandpapa had done in showing us to cloak ourselves—a physical connection allowing the sharing of learned behavior rather than just knowledge.

A burst of wind carried us southward, away from Lockwood and Patrick’s home, and my human half rested within our dragon, allowing instincts to carry us through the air. A short while later, we circled Jaxon’s apartment, a deep craving banking us toward his place of work. Patrick had warned me away from Lockwood—but not the grocery store where my beta was. Jaxon’s energy tingled over our scales like caressing fingertips, coaxing, drawing us toward the ground.

The store’s rear parking lot sat empty, and we landedwith hardly more than a clatter of claws on pavement. Beast gave way to humanity, and I took over, shrinking us back into our smaller form, still hidden from human sight.

Jaxon’s pull, the tether of energy linking us together, intensified to the point I could tell exactly where he stood beyond the building’s walls. A quick walk took me to the store’s front, and I followed a woman through the swished-open doors.

My beta stood to the left, exactly where I’d felt his presence. He shoved a box into a bag, his gaze glued to mine even though his human half couldn’t see me. A rush of arousal, hot and wet, swept over me, same as it had that first night I’d seen him in the barred window of his room at Lockwood.

I stalked toward him, nostrils flaring while breathing in his earthy scent, my desire for his touch spurring me forward fast enough I had to skirt around a patron and her carriage who dared attempt to slow my steps.

He tore his focus off me to continue bagging groceries, and I crowded against his back, snaking my arms around him to grab his hard cock. A shudder rippled through him.

“I want you,” I whispered in his ear.

Yessss, both he and his dragon agreed through our bond.

I continued to stroke him as he finished bagging for their current customer and followed on his heels after he asked for a quick bathroom break.

He locked the door behind us, but I dropped to my knees before he could grab me and slam me against the wall like he’d planned on doing. I freed his erection and took him into my mouth, and he groaned, his hands holding onto my head.

“Fuck, Prim.” He groaned as his cock hit my tonsils.

I peered up at him, still cloaked, and he looked down as I backed off.

He snorted a laugh but shoved back into my throat. “It’s like my dick is disappearing into thin air.” He pulled out, andI sucked hard, coating my tongue with pre-cum. “I love your mouth, Prim, but I want your pussy.”

I hopped up, my core already throbbing, desperate to be one with him.

“Let me see you, baby.”
