Prologue
The Entity
The noise came from outside.
A shutting of doors.
Voices.
Murmurs.
Excited whispers forming.
I rush out of the dark, up the stairwell, to the window.
I watch them.
But they can’t see me.
Can they?
Another set of tires kicks up dust along the driveway, more doors slam.
I grimace when I see the blue hair and step away from the window as they take the first few steps up the front porch and their voices grow louder.
Laughter.
This house hasn’t heard laughter inyears.
How long has it been?
Day, night, night, day. So much rain.
It feels like time here swirls.
I… I don't know anymore...
But I know that voice.
She’sback.
The door opens and the house seems to inhale at her return.
Mine. Mine.Mine.
Mine to play with.
Mine to destroy.
I slink back.
Down,
down,
down…
Into the darkness…
