The look he gave me just about melted everything. There were a lot of things to consider, but Eli and Molly were plugging holes in my heart that I didn’t even know existed. They were making me feel things I had no idea I was capable of feeling. It might have been selfish of me, but I wasn’t ready to give that up.

Licking my lips, I said, “Yes…I mean I’d love to go out with you.”

If the look he’d given me moments ago hadn’t already incinerated my insides, the smile playing on his lips surely would have. His gaze dropped to my mouth, lingered there for a few seconds before rising to mine again. “I’ll pick you up at six.”

He eyed my mouth one more time then took a step backward. “Sleep sweet, sunshine.” I had to fight the urge to close my eyes as his voice rolled over me in a caress.

Eli’s eyes stayed locked onto me as I carefully climbed into my car and my engine sputtered to life. A breath I had no idea I was holding whooshed from my lungs the moment I couldn’t see him in my rearview mirror anymore.

Later that night as I lay in bed, replaying everything that’d happened, my mind warned me that I was treading dangerous waters. My heart, however, urged me to close my eyes and take a leap.

What’s the worst that could happen?
