Pulling my shoulders back, I met his stare head-on. "Then do it." Oh, I was in so much trouble, but hell if I cared.
Bradley's nostrils flared and a loud curse reverberated through the cab. His arm shot out; fingers curling around my wrist in a tight grip. Before he could tug me closer a loud slam on the truck's hood echoed through the air.
Jumping on the spot, my hand immediately moved to press against my racing heart. That was the second time in under an hour I feared I might succumb to a freaking heart attack.
More curses spilled from his lips before both of us turned our attention to whatever had caused the noise. Whatever turned out to be a whoever when Sawyer came into view. Arms spread wide and palms facing the sky, he was staring at us with an incredulous look on his face.
"Are you getting out any time soon, or do we need to call the fire department?"
Next to me, Bradley shook his head. His hand was still wrapped around my wrist and he gained my attention with a gentle squeeze.
"We are so not done with this conversation," he said, the instant our eyes connected.
"Okay."
Neither of us made a move to get out. Instead, I was shown, yet again, how easy it was to lose myself in those deep blue depths. It was a little scary how fast the rest of the world seemed to melt away when I was with Bradley.
Two more sharp smacks against the hood followed by Sawyer's annoyed,"hellooo"penetrated the bubble we'd created for ourselves. I couldn't stop the laughter from bubbling up, even if I tried.
"We should probably—"
"Yeah." Bradley's grin was wide and beautiful, but the intense look never disappeared. "I mean it, we're not done here."
"I hope not."
He eyed my mouth one last time before pushing on his door with a grunt. I too, tugged on the handle and hopped out of the truck. My feet had barely hit the ground before I heard Sawyer complain to Bradley.
"Why do you even have a phone if you're not going to answer it?" He made eye-contact with me, his tone instantly softening. "Hi, Hailey." I lifted my hand and greeted him with a small wave.
In answer to his friend's question, Bradley brought his hands up and made a show of patting every pocket. His broad shoulders rose and fell in an easy shrug. "Must've left it in the truck. Sorry, man." His gaze skittered to me; those blue irises all-knowing. "I was busy." I had to chew on the inside of my cheek to stop myself from smiling like a silly schoolgirl.
Slowly, his attention drifted back to a clearly very annoyed Sawyer. "Did you need something?"
"We're heading out to the creek for a little fun in the sun." He flashed his teeth and waggled his brows.
A strangled sound came from the back of Bradley's throat. "That'syour big emergency?"
Sawyer lifted his arms in surrender. "I never claimed there was an emergency." His tone was way too sweet for such a rugged man.
"I have plans," Bradley announced. "I'll drop by later."
My pulse started fluttering again because I knew exactly what those plans entailed. Sawyer, however, did not. "Your plans can wait." He jerked his chin in my direction. "Hailey's coming too."
My eyes widened. "I am?"
"Sure you are." He cocked his head to the side and then added, "Just as soon as you change into something else. We wouldn't want that pretty dress of yours to get all dirtied up." Another sound tore from Bradley; this one sounding a lot like a growl. Either Sawyer didn't hear it or he simply wasn't fazed because he just rambled on. "Talia and Jessie went inside to go get changed."
"Uhm." My eyes darted to Bradley. When I saw the look on his face, I knew our time alone was going to have to wait. "I'll go change then."
