Everlee waved her finger in front of me. “I could ask you the same damn thing, missy.” Leaning forward, she narrowed her eyes. “No underwear.”

I choked out a laugh at her impression of Zach and then realized what she’d said.

“You heard that?” I covered my face with my hands and shook my head. “Oh my gosh.”

“Oh my gosh is right.” Everlee snort-laughed. “You have some explaining to do… or rather, I need details. All the filthy details.”

Dragging my hands up, I smoothed my palms over my hair. “I’m not telling.” My cheeks heated even more. “So you can either come upstairs and help me find something to wear or—”

“I can just imagine all the filthy details for myself?”

A burst of laughter flew over my lips, and I wasn’t entirely sure if it was because of Everlee’s remark or excitement.

Because I had a date with my husband.

Zach

Myhandstightenedaroundthe steering wheel, and the muscles in my forearms twitched. My mouth was dry, and there was an empty feeling in the pit of my stomach.

And it was all because of the woman in the car beside me.

A vision in a silky red cocktail dress with a thin golden belt cinched at the waist. She’d swept her blonde curls to one side, leaving her slender neck open for my perusal and for my mouth to devour later.

And then there were the heels. High and sparkly in the same gold as her belt. It had my mind careening from the moment I’d laid eyes on them. Visions of my goddess standing before me wearing nothing but those heels while I worshipped her on my knees had plagued my thoughts and filled my fantasies.

But that wasn’t why I was feeling all out of sorts.

It had started when I’d picked up the phone and called her without even realizing I was doing it. Initially, it had been to just hear her voice—which surprised the shit out of me. But since I couldn’t tell her that, I had to think on my feet.

Not the best idea, considering I hadn’t been on a date in years. But then again, was it really a date if I took my wife out for a meal?

Shit.

That right there was the damn issue. My brain wasn’t the place where ramblings took place. Focused and driven, I didn’t spend my time pondering frivolous things. And yet, that was what I’d been doing all day.

All.

Fucking.

Day.

My meetings had been about her. I spent my time alone in my office thinking about her. And not just the different ways I wanted to take her. No, I sat there wondering what she was doing.

Did she have breakfast?

Was she sitting at her desk designing something new?

Was I on her mind as much as she was on mine?

It was completely ridiculous, and it needed to stop.

“Where are we going?” Natalie’s voice sounded.

My gaze flicked to her for a too-short moment before focusing on the road again. “I thought we’d already discussed this.”

“Zach! You didn’t… how did you even get a table on such short notice?”
