Friday, July 11th
Taylor essentially live texted me her dinner. It was cute, seeing all the photos of her meal and a couple of her holding some of the more artsy dishes. She’s a nice girl, not jaded by these things.
While the bank’s building has a futuristic architecture style, this conference room is bland, a whole new take on minimalism. Maybe the chairs are intentionally uncomfortable to encourage short meetings?
I glance around the room. There’s nothing on the walls, but the view of Zurich’s city center is breathtaking.
If it’s three in the afternoon here, then it’s eight in the morning in Chicago. Finally, I can text Taylor back without it seeming too early.
Brandon
Greetings from Zurich. I made the photo of you with the dessert your contact photo.
She looked incredible last night, and I wish I could have been there.
Taylor
Thanks again. We had so much fun. When do you come back from Germany?
Brandon
I’ll be back on the twentieth but will be jet lagged so don’t want to commit to anything before the 23rd.
Taylor
Did you ask me out? If so, I missed that text.
I love the sass.
Brandon
Let me make it up to you on the 23rd. We will talk about the book. Because I have questions. Let’s get dinner then?
Taylor
Considering this offer.
I chuckle softly before a group of guys in suits enter the conference room, joining me and the advisors from my dad’s team at the table.
Brandon
Time to sign documents. Talk later. You take care of business too. I want to hear an update about your company.

Looking at my reflection through the bathroom mirror, I shouldn’t be this nervous to call Nicholas. I’ve been thinking about doing it since Sunday and it’s already Friday. The push from Brandon was good. I needed it. Internally repeating the pitch, I got this. It’s almost nine in the morning. Is that too early to call? I’ve just got to do it. Stop thinking about it, and just do it.
High Five will be my first account.
High Five will be my first account.I take a deep breath to calm my nerves and tap Nicholas’s contact on my phone.
“Taylor,” he greets warmly.
“Nicholas, hey.”
“What’s that tone? Did we get a bad review?”
I rub my forehead. The only time I’ve ever called him out of the blue was about bad news. “No emergencies this time.”
