CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE

THE FIRST SON

“I don’t know why you would want to come to this country, and during a war no less,” Titus complained. “Especially after what you did the last time you were here.”

“I did not ask you to join me,” I pointed out. The carriage rocked gently side to side as we traveled along the dark road towards a battle encampment.

“Like I would miss you picking out your first son,” Titus said as he grinned at me. “Besides, Father insisted I go with you on this foolhardy endeavor to protect you. I hope you find your son here. Lord knows it’s taken you long enough to find someone. A fucking century has passed since Father told you to sire another. I’m surprised he’s been so patient with you. Probably because you’re his favorite.”

“I’ve yet to find any one I want toembraceback in our territory… New Persia, as Father likes to call it,” I said. I knew our Father hated having to leave his birthplace, even though it happened a century ago. That defeat still resonated with him. It was why he’d given our current territory the name of his old homeland. To all of us, it was still like Persia, even though we lived in India. Maybe one day, Ara would accept this and start calling our territory India. So far, we all patronized him.

“I realize that, but why here? The Normans are attacking and I’d rather not get caught up in that. Tis a dangerous plan, brother. And how did you get Father to agree? And how did you convince Tylendel to give you his venom?” Titus asked.

“So many questions, brother?”

“I’m the curious sort.”

I laughed, but nodded. It was true, there was a war going on, of the human sort. The Normans were invading Capua and the battle had been waging on for years. That was what drove me to want to come here. I wanted to search among the Capua soldiers for one worthy of my blood. A brother of my homeland who rebelled against his oppressors. The human war was devastating, as wars are want to be, but ultimately, was of no consequence to vampires. They fought over land all of the time, but for creatures like vampires, werewolves, and dragons, we had our own land disputes that didn’t concern them.

Regardless, we were traveling in a direction that many didn’t want to go. We had to enthrall the coachman in order to get him to take us to the home of the vampire King, Nexus. I had been messaging him for two years regarding this trip, asking for permission to search his lands for my future child. At first, he threatened to kill me on site, especially after the offense I’d given him the last time I’d entered his territory without permission.

I knew I had to offer him something that he would consider worthy of his forgiveness and generosity. In my last message to him, I had promised him a vial of dragon venom and blood. Something that was extremely coveted in our world, as the dragons did not give it freely. After that exchange, he had agreed to give me three nights after dropping off the vial and nothing more. Therefore, I had to make sure all of my travel plans were time sensitive.

After traveling by flight with Titus in my arms through dragon territory, we had to travel by water through the Persian Sea, Red Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea until we reached Italy, Nexus’ territory. He had four vampires waiting for us when we arrived to take us to his home. That was three days ago, and it took longer every time we had to stop to sleep during the day.

“I’m still waiting for an answer, brother,” Titus said, bringing me out of my thoughts.

“I’m sorry, brother, my mind drifted.”

“To better pastures than this, I hope,” Titus commented.

“The very same. To answer your questions, I told both Father and Tylendel that I knew I could find the perfect child in Italy. I wanted someone who shared my Italian blood to be my first son. I wanted that connection to be that special. Our Father did not like it, but he agreed nonetheless. Tylendel wanted me to be safe in our travels and when I asked him for a vial of his venom and blood, he gave it to me.”

Titus snorted. “You must share a very special relationship with him.”

“I do. Not only with him, but with his friend, Vex, as well.” I winked.

“Is his cock really that magical, brother?” Titus asked, and he stared at me with genuine curiosity.

I nodded. “Heavenly, brother. His cock could make the god Apollo drop to his knees,” I said. I felt a nice tingle go through my body at the memory of Tylendel’s cock bringing me to climax, and my body shuddered in response. “And Vex is almost as good.” I’d bedded both dragons, and found myself nearly delirious with pleasure each time.

Titus laughed. “I suppose so by how you’re acting. I’m both jealous and relieved that I’ve never felt the pleasures of either of their cocks.”

“Be jealous, brother,” I jested.

The wheels of our carriage hit a rock and shook us roughly about and we both had to grip the edge to keep from being tussled around.

“Arg!” Titus groaned. “I do hope that whomever you find in these cursed lands are worthy. You know how much I detest this place.”

“I do, which is why I’m surprised you decided to join me.” My brother, no doubt, was reliving the years he’d spent as a slave in these lands, fighting for his life in the arena.

“First off, I was ordered by Father because I’m familiar with the place you want to go to. Secondly, like I said, I wanted to see the moment when you finally picked someone for gods’ sake. I’ve sired six children to your zero,” he stated.

“So you have, your standards are low, maybe?” I teased, and dodged a playful slap from him as we both laughed.

“You cunt,” Titus said with a chuckle. Then he looked out of the window. “Ahhh, finally, we arrive.”

I took a gander and was thrilled to see Nexus’ palace of stark marble and green vines. It was beautiful and reminded me of home. The four vampires who had escorted us, three by horse, one driving, all came to a stop in front of the palace and dismounted. So, Titus and I did the same.
