I was concerned for my little brother at first, fearful Kendrick would want him dead, as he was born with the Rites of a King. His eyes, dual colors, a clear indicator. But Hexon assured me Kendrick would not kill my sibling. I had four sisters who lived with my mother. I didn’t see them often, mainly when it was time for the Harvest and male dragons visited Astria-Helena to mate. The city was named in honor of my mother and grandmother. Well, it was time for me to see what my King wanted.
“Are you going to ever tell me why your cock went soft, Sir?” Giorgio asked.
He went into that mode now that we were no longer in private. “When the King summons us, we must respond immediately and cannot be distracted by our desires or feeding. His summons automatically removes such an obstacle by nullifying our desires. Now, keep your mouth shut,” I told him as we entered the beautiful mansion.
I knew exactly where to find him and I could see that wolves and lesser dragons were hard at work remodeling the castle. Walls were being painted; new flooring was being laid down. Evander’s taste was full dragon, lots of glamour. Kendrick’s seem to be tapered a bit. He wanted some glitz, but also some natural décor. Must have been the wolf in him. They tended to lean towards earthy colors and designs, not to say it lacked elegance. It all depended on if they had taste or not. Théoden’s own style was also a mixture of dragon extravagance and vampire love for leather and modern decorating. Lots of angles, curves, art deco… I doubted if he even noticed that it was a vampire thing. That was why his sons loved it as well.
“He called you too?” I heard Vex ask me from behind.
I looked over my shoulder to see him walking with his wolf, Isiah, at his side. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, but something was different about their dynamic. Perhaps, it was the fact that Isiah’s face was missing its signature scowl. Still, their relationship had some hurdles to overcome.
“I wonder what this meeting is about,” Vex said.
Most dragons had to address me as “Sir” because before Kendrick, I was the Elder Knight, the one in charge of the King’s army. Now, my ranking was equal to Vex. However, Vex, Lex, and Misha didn’t have to address me as that in private, as I considered them my very good friends. Théoden, though, he was my best friend. I could already sense that he was here. A dragon Knight always had a bit of a link with the dragons they gave their Rites of Passages to. Just a tingling sensation when they were near.
“It’s been five days since he claimed this territory as his own. I’m sure he wants to lay down some new edicts,” I said.
“Ah, yes, of course.” Vex nodded.
We entered the great hall where such important declarations were made. I took a quiet account of who was in the room, and noted three of Kendrick Knights were there, including Théoden. That was something I didn’t even think was possible. But Kendrick’s blood made it so. Now I was wondering if Evander had not been so opposed to Théoden. Could his blood have made Théoden a Knight? Hell, had I even thought it was possible, I would have suggested it myself a few weeks ago when Evander was powerful enough to add two more Knights to his Guard, giving him a total of twelve. I supposed none of it mattered now.
The King himself wasn’t in the room yet, but I noticed a few of his wolves were present, those who ranked high I was guessing. Hexon was there with other members who once made up Evander’s High Council. I took my place beside Théoden, Lex, and Giancarlo.
“How did you beat me here?” I asked Théoden.
The newly Knighted hybrid frowned. “His Majesty is insisting I take up residence closer to his territory so I may come faster when he calls. Therefore, I happened to be in the neighborhood looking at real estate. I’m to acquire a residence that rests on our borders.”
I chuckled. “You wanted this.”
“I know. But you know how I feel about my home,” Théoden complained.
“So, find another mansion in the sky,” I said.
“That’s what I was doing when he summoned me. I can’t say that I liked the feeling,” Théoden said.
I smiled. “Ahh, young Knight, welcome to my world. Get used to that.”
“Also, along the border, there are no high-rises. I may have to purchase one of the mansions along Highland Road,” he continued to complain.
I laughed. “I’m used to this. The King will always demand his Knights are in close proximity. My own home is less than a half hour flight from here, and that’s with a casual speed.”
Théoden turned to me, and he was dressed very handsomely in a black suit with a black turtleneck and shiny, patent leather shoes. A suit that surely cost him a few thousand dollars, not that it hurt his wallet one bit. He was a trillionaire after all, as was I.
“You’re taking a little too much pleasure in my discovery phase,” he said.
“Oh, yes… I’ll admit that. And?”
He rolled his beautiful gray eyes.
“Serving two Kings getting you stressed?” I pressed.
“Go fuck yourself,” he retorted.
I laughed, then reached behind him, pinching a meaty chunk of that fine ass of his. He didn’t react, which I knew he wouldn’t. Not unless I sent a jolt of pleasure through my touch. I did note that his pet wolf wasn’t present. “Where is Ivan?”
“Watching over my sons,” Théoden said. “Why?”
I shrugged. “Our King is half dragon and half wolf… I’m willing to bet he’s going to have an opinion about what went down the day we claimed our pets.”
