We ordered a couple of pizzas to hold us over, and watching his lips work the cheese into his mouth made me want to slap the slice out of his hands and stuff my dick between those lips. I didn’t think I’d ever been so jealous of food before. I wondered if he knew just how much he turned me on? Several times throughout the night, our eyes connected and I wanted to kiss him, but I didn’t. What if what happened between us was just to bring us together for the book’s sake? I mean, I was a mobster, a killer according to Adrian, who was in the business of saving lives. Even if we did have something going on between us, would he want to pursue it? Ahhh fuck, I was too damned tired for those kinds of thoughts.

“Are you coming back tomorrow?” Adrian asked as he also rose from his chair.

“Of course, we need to work that spell. But first, we have to get the ingredients.”

“I don’t even know where to find a wolf’s scent,” he said.

“I… um… I may be able to get it. I know a guy who deals in the black-market trade.”

“Of course, you do,” Adrian said dryly.

“Hey, if it gets you what you need, I wouldn’t worry about where it came from,” I pointed out.

“What time will you be back?” Adrian asked me, changing the subject. I guessed that was his way of agreeing with me.

I stepped close to him, getting all up in his personal space. I leaned down until our lips were nearly touching. “You know… I don’t have to leave at all.”

I didn’t know what made me want to be so bold. Maybe it was because I was a man who took chances. Maybe it was because in my heart, I knew there was something going on between us. There was an attraction between us I couldn’t ignore. Fuck that, I wasn’t going to ignore it. If Adrian didn’t want to explore what could be, then I would back down. I wasn’t the kind of man who forced himself on anyone. Either you wanted me or you didn’t. I didn’t beg, not ever. But I had to let him know I was at least extremely receptive if he was willing to take a chance.

When he didn’t back up, I decided to make my move. I grabbed the back of his head and kissed him. I thought he would push me away, but he didn’t. On the contrary, his leaned into me and that made me wrap my other hand around his waist, pulling him closer. Yeah, I was tired and it was late, but I always had energy for a rumble in the sheets. I let my hand drop down to his sweet, firm ass and gave it a nice squeeze and to my satisfaction, he moaned in response. Yeah… the feeling was definitely mutual. I could feel his cock growing harder against my thigh and mine was starting to rise for another taste of him.

“Boss—oh shit—I’m sorry,” I heard Nadia say.

Her untimely interruption did spoil the mood, which annoyed the fuck out of me. I didn’t like having my cock blocked. Adrian pulled back and I released my hold on him, then turned to Nadia. “Impeccable timing.” The sarcasm and annoyance in my tone was unmistakable.

She sucked in some air, cringing. “Yeeahh, I’m sorry about that. It’s just… it was getting late. I didn’t know if you were even awake in here.”

“It is getting late. You should go home, get some rest. I need some rest and later today, we can search for Lacey,” Adrian said, his cheeks still flushed from our kiss. I found it adorable how much he reacted to me.

“Nadia, wait for me outside,” I said. She nodded and did as I asked, leaving me alone with Adrian. “I know you feel what I feel, Adrian.”

He ran his hands through his hair and took a few steps away from me as if the distance would make my desire for him dissipate. “Look, Sage, I think we need to just take this whole partnership slowly. We still don’t know what it means.”

“So, your cock isn’t hard like mine is?”

“Jesus,” he said, then his hand went to his crotch, but he was too late to hide his erection. “It’s late.”

“Yeah, yeah, I’ll go home. But let me leave you with something.” I walked over to him, taking his chin between my finger and thumb, lifting his beautiful face to mine. “If you thought what I did to you last night was amazing, you have no idea what I will do to you when I take my time to draw out every second of pleasure from of you.” I moved in closer, and his lips pursed as if to kiss me, but I didn’t press my mouth to his no matter how much I wanted to. Instead, I continued my seduction. “I won’t be satisfied until you’re screaming my name in ecstasy, giving yourself to me in every way.” I released him and made my way to the door, pausing to turn to him. “See you later,” I said, winking before I gathered my belongings and walked out of his office. By the way his mouth dropped open, I knew he had been thinking about me, about my cock and about how much he wanted me. Yes… this was something that was possible. Could he be the yin to my yang? The light to my darkness?

I was standing in the lobby now. Xavier was sleeping with his head down on the desk and Shi had been sleeping in one of the chairs. Nadia walked over to her, shaking her awake.

“We’re leaving,” she said.

“Fuck, what time is it?” Shi asked.

“Five a.m.,” I said as I slipped my suit jacket back on. I had my vest on, but unbuttoned, and my tie was draped around my neck. “Time for us to leave.”

“Man, my neck is killing me. Sleeping in this chair wasn’t comfortable. I hope you learned a lot more from that book,” Shi said.

I cocked an eyebrow. “More than I ever knew before. I understand now why its true power was hidden from me for so long. I’ll explain more in the car. Let’s go.” I walked toward the exit, holding the door open for them and then exited myself. As I made my way toward my car, I felt something painful enter my abdomen. It hit me with such a force, it knocked me off my feet. “Ahhhh fuuck!” I cried out and looked down to see blood pouring from my stomach. The wound was set aflame and I could feel the burn spreading.

I gathered the elements of magic around me, bringing up a barrier just as another bullet bounced off it. Nadia and Shi were instantly at my side, lifting me up and dragging me back into the building. Our noisy re-entrance woke Xavier up and he leaped from his desk, hopping over it to run toward me just as Adrian appeared in his office doorway.

“What happened?” Adrian asked as he ran over to us. “Oh shit!” he gasped once he saw the blood.

“He’s been shot,” Nadia said, then she ran back outside to try to catch the motherfucker who had finally got lucky.

Xavier ran back to his desk to get his gun. “Stay here!” he yelled before following Nadia outside.
