She reached into her jacket, pulling out her wallet, then a card from that wallet, handing it to me. I took the black card with the gold lettering, which meant it was one of those no limit cards rich people had.

“Company card,” Jewel said.

Now I knew what she meant when she said Sage would be paying for it. I read the name on the card, it was under Sage Tamir Enterprises and had Jewel’s name underneath. When Olga gave me the quadruple digit total for everything I was purchasing, I just handed over the card and prayed Sage would be okay with the price tag. Hell, some of that stuff I was also going to use for the spell I needed to find out who was trying to kill him, so he had better not mind. Olga wrapped everything up neatly and safely before bagging them.

“Thanks for everything. Tell the grandbabies, I said ‘hello,’” I told her as I made my way to the door.

“I sure will,” Olga said, waving goodbye.

Before we returned to Sage’s home, we stopped off and got four extra-large supreme pizzas. It was going to be a long afternoon and I was hoping Sage would already be there so we could get started on these spells.

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Igot home and placed Yolanda on the bed in one of my guest bedrooms. I looked down at her. She wasn’t dead, but her heartbeat was slow, like two beats per minute, and there was a breath every thirty. It was like she was in some form of a coma. Vampires weren’t the walking corpses of old folk tales and horror movies. Griezels, on the other hand, were. Vampires lived in the void, so to speak. Where they were neither dead or alive. And that was what made them so damn hard to kill. I honestly thought the only reason Salino had never attacked me for my territory was because he knew I had magic on my side. None of the other supernal factions did. Fire was always something I pretended like I could control and that would put an end to vampires. Brute strength could take care of a griezel. Of course, now, my magical use of fire was on another level. I could probably ignite an entire building with the power flowing through me.

I stared at Yolanda a bit longer, wondering what kind of shifter or vampire would she be? Or would she be both? If she couldn’t shift, I’d make her a soldier in my mafia, but she’d never be pride. For her sake, I hoped she was both. Like I was. The more powerful I could make my pride, the better for me and them. I looked at my watch. I still wanted to make some arrangements for Adrian and Xavier living within my building. Also, I needed to get the office suite ready for them to inspect. I was sure once they saw what I was offering and at the fraction of the rent they were already paying for so much less, the decision would be easy to make.

I walked to my bedroom to change my outfit. My suit had blood on it and I wondered if the cleaner would be able to work a miracle on it or not. I slipped on a cashmere, cream-colored pullover and a pair of black jeans. Whenever Adrian returned, we were going to have to get to down to business looking for this missing girl. Also, I wanted to see if I could use the poison bullet to track down who had shot me.

I heard the doorbell ring and I knew Shi would be answering it. I put on my shoes and left the room to see who was in my house. My bedroom was soundproof, but once out of it, I heard Adrian and Xavier speaking with Shi. They were all standing in the living room, chatting.

Adrian turned and smiled when he saw me approaching and it took my breath away. The look in his eyes pretty much devoured me when he smiled. I knew then and there that I would always want him to look at me that way. “We have work to do,” he said.

I nodded. “First, let me help you get a little settled in.” I took him into my arms and kissed him. I didn’t care if anyone surrounding us approved or not. I could sense that his friend, Xavier, didn’t approve, but to his credit, he kept his mouth shut.

I released him and grinned.

“That was nice,” Adrian said.

“It is something I want to do to you every day,” I said.

“Oh my God, I don’t know if I can take you this mushy,” Shi said.

I looked at her and laughed. “Then maybe you can show Xavier around the tower and all the amenities.”

She raised both eyebrows. “Oooh, aren’t we showing off.”

“Just taking care of our friends,” I said, looking at Xavier. “Adrian cares about you a great deal. So, I offer you this extension. You are free to stay here as long as you like.”

Xavier crossed his arms over his chest. “Is that so? Well, what if Adrian decides being a mobster’s boyfriend is too troublesome and decides to leave you? Do we still get the shiny perks?”

“Xavier, that was uncalled for,” Adrian chastised.

“No, it wasn’t,” Xavier shot back.

I sighed. “It’s a fair question. Adrian and I share a connection that surpasses the mundane relationships you’ve probably had, so I don’t see that happening. But if it does, my offer still stands. I’m not some petty bitch that goes back on my word when things don’t go my way.”

“Well, that wasn’t passive-aggressive at all,” Adrian commented.

“It was rude, but at least I got my answer,” Xavier stated. “Don’t worry, I will find another place to stay once we’re done cleaning up your mess.”

I snorted. “The missing girl is your mess, and the offer still stands if you change your mind. But if it makes you feel any better, I mean, not like a charity case, I can charge you the price of the condo. Tell me, are you able to afford a three thousand-a-month condo mortgage?”

“I mean, it’s a beautiful condo, but I doubt it’s worth that much,” Xavier snapped back.

“Oh, in this neighborhood with all the amenities included, it’s worth that much and more. But why don’t you show some gratitude before you let your mouth write a check your ass and wallet can’t cash,” I growled.

“Okay.” Adrian stepped in between us, putting up both hands. “Xavier, please, just get settled in. I think you need to take a few minutes to cool your head.”
