I nodded, because I didn’t know what to say to that. “I was confident that I’d find Lacey tonight,” I said.
“Kind of ballsy of you,” Brad said.
“Yeah, I don’t disagree. So, can I leave?” I asked.
He nodded. “See you tomorrow, Elias,” Brad said, using my last name, which meant he was being serious about expecting to see me tomorrow.
I waved at Xavier and Jewel and they joined me as we left the police station. They took one car and Sage and I took the other. “Did you call Lacey’s auntie and tell her that we found her niece?” I asked Sage once I was beside him again.
He smiled and nodded. “I did. I also made sure they had flight arrangements to get them here. I figured you’d want her to be with her family as soon as possible and not have to wait with strangers for hours on end in some shitty police station.”
That was just another thing he had done that proved he was amazing. I kissed him again, this time climbing onto his lap. I felt his cock harden and as much as I wanted to take him into my mouth, I feared I wouldn’t have the energy I needed to give him the pleasure he deserved. Instead, I broke our kiss and just laid my tired body against his and fell in love with his embrace. Soon, we would be home.
Home… our home.
CHAPTER TWENTY
Iwoke up to the gentle sounds of my lover. Yes, I liked the sound of that. My lover, Adrian, was snoring next to me. I loved waking up next to him and knew I’d always want to. He was sleeping so soundly, I didn’t want to disturb him, but I had to take a piss. Very carefully, I untangled my limbs from Adrian’s body and rolled out of the bed. I relieved myself, brushed my teeth, and then returned to the bedroom. The room was pitch black as my windows blocked all UV rays and my blinds pretty much played Gandalf with the sunshine. “You shall not pass!” sort of deal. I paid a pretty penny to not be disturbed no matter what time of day it was.
I was a little horny when we had arrived home last night after having fed off that mage, but Adrian was so exhausted, I didn’t bother him. As soon as his head hit the pillow, it was lights out. I followed shortly after him and that was how our busy day ended. I decided to let him sleep and left the bedroom wearing my pajama pants and robe; black satin, of course. I loved the way the fabric felt on my flesh. While I had been waiting for Adrian to arrive at the airport from Orlando, I had taken care of business, making some necessary calls. Among them was one to a clothing store I adored and ordered some outfits and items for Adrian. I hoped he’d love them and not think I overstepped. But truth be told, I really just wanted to spoil my Georgian peach.
My condo was empty for the first time in… shit, I didn’t know how long, but it was actually nice to have my home to myself. I walked over to the windows overlooking the city and just marveled at the view. Cars moved below as all living beings went about their daily activities. Life always went on no matter what happened in this world. I found that interesting. Once Adrian felt strong enough to work that spell, I wanted to take care of these mages. Before I went to bed, I put a corpse shield on her body, undoing the locator blocking spell Adrian had cast on her. I wanted them to think she had died so they’d stop looking. I couldn’t risk them breaking through his spell and finding her. At least, not until I was done with the bitch. It was dark magic and another nifty spell I was pleased to now know.
“So, you just let me sleep in like a bum?” Adrian said from behind me.
I knew when he’d exited out of the bedroom and I could smell his scent the moment he drew closer. I turned, smiling at him. “You looked too adorable to wake up.” I walked over to him, tilting his face up to mine, and kissed those lips that belonged to me. My desire to claim him rose and I released a growl.
Adrian pulled back and chuckled. “Did you just growl?”
“I did.”
“You’re that horny?”
“For you, always. But it’s more than that.”
“What?” he asked, then wrapped his arms around my waist.
I held him close to me, pressing my cheek to the top of his head. “My nature… You’re my mate, Adrian. So, therefore…”
“You want to claim me?” he finished, and looked up at me. “How does that happen, by the way?”
I pulled back a little to better gauge his expression. “This doesn’t upset you?”
“That you want to claim me? Why should it?”
“I… I wanted to claim you the first time we had sex. But we’d just met. Hell, our relationship is still new.”
“Only a few days old, I know. But… honestly, Sage… I’m the happiest I’ve ever been.”
“Me too. So, you can see yourself being my mate?”
“Do I even have a choice? I mean, sure, I can. But I think the book decided for us a long time ago. The book and fate,” Adrian said. “And Sage, I have not only accepted that, but I am looking forward to a future with you. So, this whole claiming thing… does it hurt?”
This young human pretty much swept me off my feet. Never had I met one so astute beyond his years. The book and fate had chosen wisely. “It will hurt, unfortunately, but it will be a quick pain.”
“What happens when you do? I mean, isn’t this normally something that happens to shifters?” he asked.
“Not necessarily. I’ve heard tales of humans becoming mates of shifters, even vampires and griezels. It doesn’t change what you are. But it does bind you to your mate. So, basically, a bit of my essence will be in you. I will always know how to find you. Feel your emotions and well, be a bit more aggressive in protecting you than I already am. So, if you can tolerate me being overly protective, then that is the claiming.”
