I respected and appreciated him being truthful with me as well. “I’m really trying not to get jealous of the fact that you had other lovers before me.”

“You asked. I wasn’t about to go there with you,” he said.

“Yeah… yeah, I know. I don’t even know why I wanted to ask you that. I guess I just wanted to find out where I ranked.”

“That should be my question,” he said.

I frowned. “Meaning?”

He smacked him lips. “Shi made it her business to tell me that you’ve had at least a thousand, I guess, fuck friends before me.”

I sighed. “She shouldn’t have said that.”

“But she did. And don’t get me wrong, I’m not some gullible idiot thinking you were some choirboy. I mean, you’re almost a hundred and fifty years old. Fucking whomever you want kept things interesting, I’m sure.”

Well, he wasn’t lying about that. But those days were behind me as far as I was concerned. “I have had my share of friends, as you said, and not one is in your league.”

“I don’t think what we have can be compared to anything we’ve had. This is some cosmic shit,” Adrian said, and I had to agree. This was some cosmic shit.

“I will assign Jewel to you. She likes cock, so Xavier might have a shot if she doesn’t break him in two. But more importantly, she used to be a detective thirty years ago. So, those skills will help you in your investigations.”

“Oh, yes… I could work with that arrangement.”

“Don’t worry about your rent. I took care of that when you were out investigating that house.”

He pulled back and looked at me, mouth open. “You what? Why?”

“Well, while you were out, I couldn’t help but see all the ‘past due’ notices on your desk. You were in dire needs. I wanted to take care of you. I hope you’re not mad,” I said.

He sighed. “I mean, yeah, you overstepped, but I’m not really in any position to complain about it. I was stressing out over how I was going to pay the damn bill. Both Xavier and I were about to be living and operating out of our cars and homeless shelters. So… thank you.”

“I will always make sure you’re taken care of, Adrian. You’re family to me now…”

“Family? Not like a brother, right?” he laughed.

“Like my mate.”

“Well, since you’re being so generous… my car broke down.”

I laughed. “Oh, you’re going to adjust just fine.”

“Adjust to what?”

“Having a very…veryrich lover.”

“I was just playing.”

“I wasn’t. But that’s a conversation for another day. I’m starting to get sleepy.”

“Didn’t you just wake up?” he asked, chuckling.

“I did, but it wasn’t like it was from a deep sleep. My body went through a lot and I’m feeling the exhaustion still,” I explained.

“I’m still tired too. Only had like six maybe seven hours sleep, but I was up for over twenty-four before that happened.” He looked around at all the dissolving bubbles. “How is this water still warm?”

“It’s temperature controlled.”

He looked at me and his eyebrows shot up. “Holy shit, money really can buy you everything.”
