So far, I had seen various body parts of a griezel, vampire, shifter, and human. Some hearts, but none of them from a griezel. Some supernal can regenerate any organ with the exception of their heart and brains. Every last body part was expensive, no less than a million dollars. It wasn’t easy to get them, so the price was understandable based on the risk. I closed the laptop and slipped it back into its compartment. Now, I had to think of a plan to get a griezel’s heart.
“No luck?” Shi asked.
“Not for the griezel heart. The Wolf’s Scent will be here tonight.”
“Think the griezel king would spare us a heart?”
I laughed. “Not likely, especially not without wanting more than I’m willing to pay for it.”
“So, what are you going to do?”
I sighed, because what I was about to do might start a war if I wasn’t careful. “I’m going to kill a griezel and take his heart.”
“Are you sure about this? If Damon finds out, he will be out for blood.”
“He needs to not find out and if he does, then I need a good reason to have dealt the death. One that I can give for why I killed one of his griezels.”
“Saving a child’s life won’t do?” Shi asked sarcastically.
“It wouldn’t even work for me if someone killed one of my soldiers or pride members. I’d still want their heads on a pike. It needs to be a personal offense to me. Someone who I let go when I probably should have killed them. Even with that excuse, it looks flimsy.”
“Either way, it’s going to get ugly. Best to not be caught,” Shi said.
“This would have been so much easier if I could have just purchased the damn thing off the fucking web,” I remarked. “Have Mr. Gregory do what he does best.”
“That will be risky. He works for you.”
“Yeah, but he’ll fuck anything for the right price. I need him to lure a griezel in.”
“And what do we do with Tom after that?” she asked.
“We’ll have to make sure he disappears.”
“You want to kill him? That doesn’t sound like you.”
“That’s not what I meant. Yeah, he’ll be a loose end, but one we need to make sure can’t be found. He’ll need a new identity and place to live. Outside of this country and not somewhere where griezel’s own the territory,” I said. One thing I didn’t do was reward loyalty with betrayal. Shi understood this.
Once the griezel realized one of theirs was missing, they’d be looking for the last person seen with them. Humans were free to travel anywhere they wanted, which meant he could cross into enemy territory unnoticed. And bring one of them back into mine where I could do what needed to be done. Sure, it was risky and I was pretty sure Damon would be contacting me regarding the whereabouts of one of his griezels, but that would be a problem to tackle later. Right now, we had a little girl to save. “As for the griezel, make sure it’s one that the world won’t miss. The more trouble the asshole caused for Damon, it’s my hope the less he’ll be pissed that it’s gone.”
I may not care for griezels, but they were like any other being occupying this earth. Some were decent, living normal lives and others were best being dead... for real.
“I’m on it,” Shi said.
I knew she didn’t really care what happened to the saucy human. But she knew how I rolled. A more ruthless mobster would have killed Tom just to secure secrecy. Tom was known to brag about his sexual conquests. But with the right spell or even my vampire influence, I could make him forget. I needed to contact Salino to ask him how one would do such a trick. I really didn’t want to have to hear his voice, but I had no choice.
Shi contacted Tom and told him what I wanted from him. There was some back and forth in their talk, but he ultimately agreed once the price was to his liking. She ended the call. “So, now what?”
“Head to Tom’s house, we can wait there.”
Shi nodded and started the car. While she was driving, I called Salino.
“Hello, my newborn child,” he answered.
I suppressed my growl. I knew he wanted to piss me off. “How do I hypnotize someone?”
“Rude.”
“Salino, I need to know,” I said.
